Suzuki Reveals New 2007 GSX-R1000
Suzuki has finally revealed their highly anticipated new 2007 GSX-R1000. The bike was shown to the public for the first time today at the Paris motor show in France. Suzuki has updated some of their European websites (such as the UK site) to display this model and two other significant bikes we will post a story on a bit later.
The 2007 GSX-R1000 has gained approximately 14lbs over the 2006 model (up to 379lbs claimed dry weight from 365lbs), most likely due to the new dual- canister exhaust system (which almost certainly features multiple catalytic converters due to new emissions regulations). The 2007 bike's motor still features the same 73.4mm bore and 59mm stroke as last year's model and Suzuki is claiming a significant increase in power over last year's model. The chassis is also reported to be updated. One piece of info Suzuki has released is that the new GSX-R1000 will feature three different engine mapping configurations, selectable via a three-position handlebar switch: standard, sport, and 'wet' (which would likely soften power significantly, and would also be helpful on cold tires). A useful feature, although it's importance is being somewhat over-hyped by some European media.
To counter the significant weight increase, Suzuki is boasting about improved aerodynamics (similar to the 2006 GSX-R600 and 750 bikes). With dual mufflers, it is likely that a large weight reduction could be had with a four-into-one aftermarket exhaust system (20 pounds or more). Keep in mind that all the new sportbikes are having to contend with more stringent emission requirements, including 2008 California rules.
