Came across some interesting info. Don't know what has been posted about the new super vette. Not confirmed. But this caught my eye.

680HP
217top speed
New Nurburgring Lap Time Record
Carbon Roof and Hood
Black - 10 spoke inside a five spoke wheel(light weight)
20" wheels and 30 or 35 series tire
Michellin New Tire(1st for a corvette)
Automatic Only(????)
Upside down supercharger(intercooler on top)
3 colors(?)-Red, Blue & Yellow
Only 3000(1500 in 2009/1500 in 2010) to be made @ over(?)$100K

Alot comes from
www.thegmsource.com

There are a couple videos on you tube showing the vette in Germany and in Leguna Seca.

Impressive to say the least.

Hope its not a repost.

hmmm! why the vac. butteryfly exh. and it looks like it has coils for each cyl. From the rear pic, it seems the inner rear tire is vary dirty! and the exh, looks rich! I dont understand why it would only be offered in auto? and 217 MPH is awesome but what does the 08 viper do at MSRP price? Dont get me wrong!! Looks like fun!! AWWW who cares i cant afford either! I would like to know about the vac valves on the exh.

what supercharger are they using? (i stopped reading CF and digitalcorvettes when i sold my C5)

The valved exhaust is currently used on the +06 ZO6 and as an option on the 08 base Vette. Under hard accel the valves open a different chamber through the muffler to free up some hp and provide a louder tone. And GM has been using the coil per cylinder since the LS1 (1998 I think).

The '09 Vette will up the ante in the new horsepower wars...

Many of us are anxiously awaiting the response of the new Chrysler owners to see if they take up the challenge or rest on the laurels of the 600 hp '08 Viper.

There is a lot at stake here. We will learn very quickly about the amount of "competitive heart" in the new owners of Chrysler as we see their response to this new Corvette...it could go any of three ways...kill the corvette with a new approach (maybe also adding Forced Induction); compete with the Corvette with modifications to the Viper 8.4; or (most chilling) opt out of the power war...

If the new owners are watching (fat chance!) my recommendation is to meet with Sean Roe...see if his Viper experience will provide them with direction possibilities...

HEY! Chrysler, are you listening??????????

1997. :)

Having been exposed to both, I'll take the Viper any day. Even IF it makes less power. The Viper is more in your skull raw attitude than the Corvette will ever be. (Don't get me wrong, I love the Z06.) MOST anything can be made fast. There's 2.0L Mitsubushi's Evo 8's running 9's in the 1/4. Guess what. At the end of the day, it's still a damn Mitsubishi.

There's an article floating around comparing the latest Viper to the latest Corvette. I think Begood posted it. That editor pretty much sums up my thoughts on the Vette vs. Viper War.

There is a non force induction Viper waiting in the wings at 675HP. Plus, they did not go back to forged internals in 08 without thoughts of other possibilities.

My fear is that those strategies were the ideas of the previous owners...the new owners may have a different concept.

According to Dodge magazine the new owners are all about American muscle, they have already brought back the pentastar and SRT is alive and well. And they won't milk the company for all its assets as Daimler did, ie, selling Mopar a bunch of new freightliners they didn't need to make freightliner's bottom line better.

I would love to believe that...and I sincerely hope as all of us do, that we will see their actions follow that philosophy.
