2009 Dodge Challenger Super Sport to be shown at SEMA 2006

HEMISPERICAL BLOG | CARLSBAD - - Well, it finally it is here. SRT inhouse tuners are planning on showing their latest creation called the Dodge Challenger Super Sport coupe. Lets hope it is packing with the next super Hemi 426-CUI, 575-HP V-8 engine. Seeing its competition, the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, the car will need it. Let alone the next Camaro SS.

SEMA 2005, SRT revealed the latest crate engine called the 6.4-Liter or a.k.a. the 392-CUI. A local sub-contractor in the LA basin, name withheld, taken a 6.1-Liter and increased the bore size and made some extensive modifications to bring the 425-HP to the next level performance of 500-HP. some other features which was made known to the public as they displayed the engine next to the 1970 plum colored Dodge Challenger SRT8 convertible.

That being said, what was told by our insider guru, that Chrysler was working on two more engines dubbed the 'Super Hemis'. Using its past muscle car heritage, he remarked that one was the legendary 426-CUI and the other the 440-CUI Wedge. Both of which will be designed around the 5.7-Liter engine as a base but adding the latest technology since then.

It has been discussed earlier that these two engine was to be used on limited basis. One with SRT and the other with a truck-line.

Seeing that the wind has changed again, a term we use quite frequently around here, meaning further errosion of sales with large truck based vehicles utilizing Hemi engine, SRT may get both of them for the sole purpose of providing added option to its growing vehicle lists. This is a good thing since the Ram SRT line didn't fair well in its third year of production with disappointing sales.

I tell you, this news almost made me wet my pants, noting my first ride was a old muscle car from the late sixties when I first hesard of it. Today, as a baby boomer, I am glad I can drive something that can the old performance heritage but now with updated safety features, latest electronics, and egonomics that fit well while driving the coupe.

Congrats to the boys in the design department and SRT. This car will sell.....

I haven't found any pics at this time... :(

Will post as soon as I do or someone else that does is more then welcome...

i wonder when they will start taking orders

The Challenger forum that numb nuts has up was really getting on my nerves... No one knows anything and this is the latest news to be publicized.

As of now:

2008 Dodge Challenger R/T 6.1-liter 420HP 5-Speed Autostick

2009 Dodge Challenger T/A 6.4-Liter 510HP 6-Speed Manual

2010 Dodge Challenger 4.0-Liter 280HP 4-Speed Auto

2011 Dodge Challenger vert

This is speculation that I have read. DCX seems to be uncertain what to do. From what I have read, the SEMA show should have an annoucement of the future HEMI.

So basically you're saying that all of the maniacs on this forum need to wait until 2009?:D

Honestly... That's what I want to do. The '08s will pretty much be taken up and we should see some limited models in '09. From what has been posted, there will only be 2 engines in '08. The 5.7 and the 6.1. We will see what will happen in '09 at this years sema.

That all looks real good on paper. And I understand that the adolescent in all of us gets a real Christmas-like jag from the subject of getting a new toy like one of these..... After all, it's a 2 door coupe with a (hopefully) bigass motor and all the goodies............."Noice......!!!!"........ I can't blame anyone one bit for drooling all over the possibilities of this new hot rod.

I for one am so incensed at DCX for it's shoddy mishandling of my customer service issues regarding the clutch hydraulics.....And over their patently abysmal actions regarding our (ha....!) warranties that I'm sticking to my guns about never buying one of their vehicles again.........

It's just like those lice ridden, avaricous, usurious, rapacious, devious, scrofulous, wartfaced fkn bastards to dangle another pretty hot rod carrot in the faces of all us hopeless junkies.... All the while knowing that it probably has more design flaws than the bloody Titanic.

DXC will not sell me another vehicle..............EVER.:D

Whew...... I feel better now......

I think my next crank turner will be a Ford GT or Mustang gt 500.....

Ford has always been very good to me......and to all hot rod enthusiasts.

They stand by their products and happily share their data with modders.....

After owning my '99 Lightning for 5 years, I read so many threads about warranties voided for various reasons.

Though for me, I can't disagree with you based on my experiences. Ford was always good to me as well, and if they ever build anything that interests me, I'll have no reservations about purchasing it.

Also, I really have no problems with DC as of yet either, FWIW.:dontknow:

My problem with Ford is our local dealer. Nothing gets fixed, but they seem to find a way to charge you.
