2012 Tesla S

These vehicles are laughably called green IMHO,that is if you consider all the pollution that is involved in fabricating the batteries PLUS all the fossil fuels that are ultimately used in the charging of these batteries .

Exactly Fabricating AND disposal ! This would be a good topic for some original research, unless its already been done!

I doubt it. If there had been then people would not be calling battery operated vehicles green:dontknow: that is a bigger oxy moron then Military intelligence:marchmellow:J?K

Ye of limited view...if no one ever tried a model T, we probably would still be on horses.

The process is called development. In a capitalistic system it is critical that "early adopters" engage with manufacturers so that the demands of the market can mold the technology of the future.

If no one ever bought a flash light battery, where would battery production be today?

If no one ever tried the concept of commercial airliners what would have happened to the industry?

I made no claims of green, I do love innovation and entrepreneurs, and I think that supporting of concepts that have possibilities is one of the responsibilities of those who understand the research and development process.

Sheesh!

I hope that it serves you well, bro.....

They are cool...... Just not sure about its practicality....

Christine drives about 8 miles to work...should work for that...

And hell I haven't had a practical car since college! 72 Biscane, three speed on the column, straight six, with overdrive!

actually the first cars they made were battery powered they figured out a hundred yrs ago it was a bad idea lol

I always wonder if the electric motors are really weather resistant..I can imagine driving one of these cars and suddenly is starts raining..the first puddle you hit, and theres a loud ZZZZZZAAAAPPP...you smell smoke...the smoke gets thicker, and you realize its filling up the interior...uhoh...when you look in the rearview you realize your hair is on fire...

Roy, I would be a bit skeptical about this car..its nice and all but the article said they were waiting on a govt grant to scale up production, etc. They are having a hard time filling orders for the original model, and I see you waiting a loooong time for something that may or may not materialize. You might just wanna hold out till the George Jetson fold up model is announced..

Fact of interest... the company that builds the Tesla, got like $300 Million from the Obama administration to research and develop an economical electric drive system to sell to "The Big 3". Interesting.... VERY interesting...

FAIL!!!

Its not that it was a bad idea then, it was that the battery technology/capacity did not exist to power them more than a mile or two. And thats when all they had to run was the motor to propel the vehicle, now they have to run all the other electronic gizmos and gadgets in the cars of today. Plus the electric motors back then were surely not as efficient as todays electric motors.

'A $250 million grant under a 2005 clean-energy appropriation and a separate $450 million request from a 2007 authorization for EV ventures.'

They also have applied for these grants that were developed under the Bush administration...

What difference does a grant from Obama administration have from the Bush administration?

I would guess the hydro infrastructure was not of today's standards either, but I do agree, it wasn't a bad idea at all.

Nothing different between any of them, the one from Obama i believe they were hand picked and handed the money, and i think rightfully so, they appear to be the leaders in the innovation, under Bush they just lobbied for them it sounds like. I think its a good investment for the government, and a nice windfall for the company to pursue their dreams and ideas. I know at one point they were near closing.

The owner of Tesla I believe was the guy who started and then sold Paypal.

He's an investor, there are many investors. He supposedly has $55 Mil of his own money in it. Sounds to me like the government has given more money to Tesla than anyone else.
