also, practice shifting. I used to have a hard time grabbin 3rd. With a good about of practice it is no longe a problem. Just a suggestion.

yea sometimes it does it and sometimes it dont - but really make me mad when im racing... and i blow it on 3rd gear

Have not missed third since I installed the X-Metal Gen IV in Summer of '06...I think Marc T and I got ours the same day.

I know this is kind-of late response/question, but I have a question for you guy's. What is wrong with the stock set-up that causes this probelm of shifting into third? I've noticed this on my truck as well, but I dont have the capital for a new shifter. Is there a mod I can do on the stock set-up to allow it to shift into third at higher RPM's?

practice is a mod....;)

i've heard there is a "3rd gear lockout?" to save the trans from powershifting....now, i don't know the validity of that, but the longer i had my truck the less i miss...all my buddy's still miss every now and again, but i can't remember the last time i missed a gear in this truck, and i'm still on the factory shifter...

Buy a used x metal shifter. The gen 1-2 is so much better than the stocker and they are cheap used. $100 or so. Its the one I have and I love it.

Why? Dodge cheaped out on many items with this truck, shifter sucks, clutch hydraulics suck. Change em both out and you have a new truck.

There is a urethane isolator on the stock shifter. Remove the shift boot and you will see it, you can get some bolts, nuts, and washers and remove the isolator all together. This will help the stock shifter quite a bit.
