FINAlly got the 4.56 gear's installed today ( cost me $730 !!!!!!!!!! ) and even with me driving REALLy slow and easy,I can feel a tremendous improvement ! I think the 4.88's would have been too much for my tastes, but I want to drive one with them just to see the difference. Only have 200 miles to go before I give them a real test !

Man, what a differance 12% makes. They are sweet, first set from UniTrax went in my Truck. 5-1/2hr. install. I was a waiter.......:(

Congrats,

I dropped it off at 7:30 this morning. They started around 8.Called me about 11:15 because they couldn't figure out the shims/depth.After getting them in touch with unitrax, everything started back at 1:30 and they were done by 4:30. I can't get over the cost, though. Does $700 sound right ?

Shop has overhead too. I went to the source and paid a little less, if they work and you don't have any trouble...they'll be worth it.

That's not the first time a shop has had problems installing these gears and were lost :dontknow: I installed my own and didn't have any problems.

Was the $700 just the labor? At 7 hours of work that's still $100 per hour. That's a bit high but depending on the area the dealer labor rate can be even higher :(

Yep,

Gears were the 2nd best mod I have done to the truck!! I had 4:56's then went to 4:88's which in my opinion is what these trucks should have come from the factory with!!

If your gonna spray or bolt on a SC or Turbo then I would go with the 4:56's!!

Oh yea! The number 1 mod on my trruck was definitely the VEC2 with a Roe tune!!

Labor rate was supposed to be $69/hr. It took about 7 hrs labor. It was there a total of 9 hrs.I know he took off 1 hour for lunch and was waiting on me for one hour, plus changed the oil (separate charge),so that is 7hrs. labor.

As long as it works,I'll be happy.

IIRC, my install cost about ~$400, plus the cost of the gears.

WILDMAN

I got my gears from unitrax and paid $250 to have them installed. I love them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the best mods I've done so far.

I could have had mine in for around $200-$300,but my regular mechanic has been unavailable for three weeks. It's only money :D and I am happy with the performance.Really want to try a 4.88 soon.Anyone close to me have them so I give them a try ??? :D
