I know what your saying about 6th gear. I cant hold 6th unless I'm @ 85 - 90 mph. Otherwise I have to keep down shifting up hills. I hate the sound the motor makes when its under load while under 1500 RPM! I'm seriously thinking about going to the 4.88's next. So many guys on here are happy with them! Have fun and you better post a review after the install and after you've broken them in!!

got my tax paper today ! delivery tomorrow ! :dancing: :dancing: :dancing:

so if you don't see me here for a while , i'm under my truck :D

Thanks :)

BAX GLOBAL arrived with my package as i was already jumping at the door...:D Opend the boxes....    o my god , i tought to have orderd 2 pieces ( pinion and ring gear) ...:dontknow: but i recieved 200 pieces !!!!

manmanman, this is no simple task , now i believe ....Mau .

Ok , i've got from Unitrax some papers with specific guides for the mod but can i find a "exploded" view of what to expect in there ? and/or a manual with tolerances to mount it all ? :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

perhaps someone has it and can take a scan ? , thanx !

Well, everything is a compromise and it always depends on your objective with your project. Yes, you will loose top end, unless you increase RPM, but in therory, you should be able to get to the new lower top end quicker, so the trade off is, do you want to go as fast as you can (IE salt flat racing) or go a little slower as quick as you can (IE Drag Racing). Since none of us are likely to go 150+ in the quarter and most of us aren't gonna go 150 on the highway, dropping the top speed down is a non-event, IMHO. Hell, I'd go with a top speed of 120 tomorrow if I could do it all in 1.4...I'm a lot more likley to do that than see if it really will do 150 on some open stretch of highway.

OK...so keeping it stock, i run a higher top end, 80mph in 6th @1600rpm and a gas mileage of 15.4....or i install the 4.88's lose top end, but i am quicker for the street racing. does this effect the gas mileage at all? not that the gas mileage is a great concern, but trying to see both sides of it. Seems like a lot of the "kill" stories were not won on quickness of the take off, but on the top end...at least if you believe all of the kill stories...I guess maybe i should forget the mechanical stuff and just make it pretty...LOL....and i didnt mean to hijack the thread.

Also asked Unitrax by mail for it .
Bought the book Haynes Repair Manual to see ....at home :
"does not include information specific to SRT-10 models "

That is correct but you gain something else..................:burnout: ok you dont gain traction, you actually lose it..........but its so much fun!!!

Truck just feels way lighter, rpms come up way faster and its easier on the clutch than the 4.10's that came stock in my truck. With catless mids and the DC stage two flash, traction is really a problem in first and second now. Truck is very torquey now.........big time!!!

Barry, you might need to find a good speed shop for the install. Its pretty tricky from what I understand.

I don't think so. Not over here. Look , what i see is that 90 % of time i drive around here at a speed just not enough for gear 6. Engine is than at less or approx 1500 rev's which i hear not to be that good and surtenly no reserve for climbs or passing etc. So i drive in 5 with approx 2200 revs.

With the 4.88 i can use 6 and reving about 1850 revs at my "cruise speed ." which is alot better for the engine than the 1500 revs and almost at a point where there is already some torque for smal driving changes as mentioned , i hope.....

Do i got it right here ? or missing something ?:dontknow:

so i tought my mpg wil improve , no ? :D

Then there is our f*cking problem with traffic jam ,  , and now i find the 1 gear with the 4.1 rather "big" for starting and stopping and starting and stopping and... every time you have to play a bit with the cluch and gas ...i think ( and hope ) that with the 4.88 this wil go much easier ,( as Patrick told , the truck is much "lighter") , perhaps i can let rol the truck only by using cluch without gaspedal play.... no ? :dontknow:

OK , i wil definitly shift more but that can only be good to my health as i otherwise use that hand for holding my sigaret.... :(

And yes , it wil be very torqui in 1 and 2 ... so carefull driving wil be needed but thats also with the 4.1. As experience out rallydriving ( years ago ) i founded a car that you can spin always in gear 1 learns you to deal with it and is far not that dangerous than one that "normal" doesn't do this but in a unattendet moment during acceleration spins and driver was not prepared....
The same with drifting : good as provoced and controlled from the begin , not always when it comes unexpected....

shoot your opinions ! :D

got mail today from UNITRAX :dancing: GREAT GUYS !:dancing:

the manual for changing the ring-pinion is about a 100 pages.... :( and the pics ( many) aren't oversized.... :(
will study it carefully before eventually starting the job.Did not find anybody in Belgium who has done this before... but , yeah , belgium isn't that great..

Barry............your in for a nice surprise with those gears!!! Traffic jams are way easier as you dont have to fight the truck to go slow........but with some gas your beast is a torque monster!!!! Get those gears installed and broken in so you can enjoy them!!! Oh, and MPG will go down no matter how you drive......so what, its a Vipertruck man!!!! LOL

With the 4.88's it will rev up so fast it will be hard to shift at a low rpm and that will result in a loss of at least 2 mpg and a big smile on your face.:D
