I have a appointment at Unitrax on Thurs wondering if I should do 4.88 or 5.13's on a NA motor. I am leaning towards 4.88's.

Sounds like your gut is on target, another vote for 4.88's......5.13's seems like really low gearing for your application....my two cents...

Whats the process like? I want to keep my truck N/A as well, what kind of benefits will you see when you're done? Thanks.

Hey Juan,
Right now if I have a real good run I have to shift into 4th at the end of the 1/4 and my trap speed is about 105. So I am figuring with 4.88's I would shift into 4th and have up to 110 at the end of the 1/4 and that should be plenty for a NA motor.

4.88-5.13

Well,I sure have nothing bad to say about 5.13's,I have had them for over a year,If you do a lot of freeway driving, for sure go with the 4.88's,though I sure love my 5.13's,80 mph is still not a problem on the highway, but to each is own!

Hey Bill,
Thanks for chiming in on this one! I knew you had 5.13's and I would like to ask you a few questions.
1) Not sure if you ran your truck in the 1/4 mile but if you have how much quicker was it then with your stock gearing?
2) How does the power feel shifting from 4th to 5th?
Thanks Mas

Is it just a gear swap or is there more to be done (re-adjust spedomoter, tachometer, etc.)? I hope the actual setup isn't too expensive. I might consider that myself.

Just a gear change as the speed sender is bolted to the carrier/ring gear in the rear end housing.
Nothing has to be done or calibrated.

The following calculations are based on a stock diameter tire of 31.6 "

6000 RPM in 4th gear is 110 MPH with 5.13's
6000 RPM in 4th gear is 115.6 MPH with 4.88's

75 MPH in 6th gear is at 1945 RPM with 4.88's
75 MPH in 6th gear is at 2045 RPM with 5.13's

6000 RPM = 154 mph 5th gear, 231 MPH 6th gear with 4.88's
6000 RPM = 146 MPH 5th gear, 220 MPH 6th gear with 5.13's

I am sporting the 4:88's, I went from 4:10 to 4:56 and now with 4:88's. Whish I would have gone with 4:88's from the gun!!

These gears make the truck feel quicker, as in accelleration. It is really noticable in third gear, probably cause the tires aren't spinning then:p .

I was cruising at 80 MPH in sixth at 1975 rpm or there about.
In 4th gear at 3000 RPM I am right at 60 MPH. I am running 325's on the back so the tire may be 1/2 taller or so but really close to stock.

I am lovin these gears, had em for about 2000 miles now!!:D

5.13-4.88

I have never ran the truck, but it most difenately feels stronger in any gear, you always in the power, driveability is 100% better, and for sure much easier on the clutch.

Geasr will run you around $350.00 for the kit. If you are proficient with installing gears it will be a cheap mod, otherwise plan on shelling out some clams to have a GOOD rear end guy do it for ya!!:)

That seems to be the difficult part for me. Talking to one of the track officials about recomending a good shop to do the install.....his comment was "there is none" !!!! :dontknow: Dare I ask the dealer if they can do it?

yeah ,,,,ask them to install your NOS kit as well......:D

4.88-5.13

I would say $600-800,makes the truck feel the way we all thought it should feel from the start,quick-really responsive, mind you we are talking a 6-speed not a auto, not that you can't change gears, the auto is just a different combo.
The other thing when Boomer gets the new wonder shifter out just think how much fun it will be to bang those gears,BANG -BANG-BANG -BANG,MUSIC TO MY EAR'S
