Who makes a 48re replacement that will hold up? One with a warranty as 1500 miles between $300-$500 worth of trany work is getting expensive and frustrating. I do like the way it runs---when it is running--- but this just got out of hand. :( Any help would be appreciated.

HTS and Suncoast are the main ones I know of, with HTS being top recommendation. I have heard of Suncoast nicknamed Suntoast due to toasted trannys, but I can't believe this tranny can be made even close to bulletproof. Even for reliable daily driving. Even the Diesel guys hate this tranny :(

I'll check around to see if there a local who is building these heavy hitter diesels round here. They gotta be holding up to 2000+ ft lbs torque , towing, and Daily Driving.

I would recommend HTS. They are stand up people and I have dealt with them a couple times to get parts to build up the trans to simply get rid of the crappy factory parts. This mainly revolves around the valve body. Not getting into detail but the clogged up gov pressure solenoids is due to clutch material in the trans. Replacing it with a GM solenoid as some have done simply hides the problem. Crappy (slipping) shifting causing that debris from the clutches.

Point is, make it shift right and it will last longer.

I kept my factory converter and had the valve body front band, shift lever, and accumulator replaced 3 years ago. Had issues with front pumps going out and converters crapping out since but shifts like a champ. If I did not have a warranty on the truck I probably would have opted for a better converter the stock one.

I would recommend getting one of their built transmissions and sending yours back as a core. Call them and tell them what you are doing with the truck and they will steer you in the right direction. No sense getting triple disk converter, red clutches, all billet shafts, etc. If you never intend to go forced induction. You get the point. Have the trans built to your needs so you are not just throwing money away.

You can always try to just buy parts to fix yours. But if you had a snap ring in the bottom of your pan I would guess there is crap in your converter, not sure if that can be flushed out, might have to replace it and they are not cheap. Don't think you are going to get a $300-$500 fix that will last.

Apparently there's nothing in his Pan according to his tranny guy. There was another post about the snap ring from another fella though :(
His seems to be a 3rd gear issue and shifted great. He did claim to hear some pump whine too though and yes the pumps stink on these things :(

Tranny guy seems to think that (without seeing it in person---that will happen Friday) that the problem with the solenoids going out after a 1000 miles of so that the valve body could be the culprit, causing too much pressure. :dontknow: Will have him take a look see next week. Here’s hoping.

I have All HTS tranny parts and over 645 RWHP and it's holding up perfectly!! 3 seasons on it and works perfectly!! HTS ALL THE WAY!!!

My fault. I confused shorty with the guy with the busted snap ring in the pan. Still valid, just talking about someone completely different

I actually just got a pump from HTS because my third Mopar factory pump went bye byes and they can't get parts. Hopefully this one lasts, which I have a feeling it will. It shifts like a monster though and when I adjusted the bands a few months ago there was virtually no wear on it after 3 years, but low mileage, about 25K or so. When my warranty is up and the trans falls apart again, I will most likely get it built. Will just have decide what I am going to do at that time. For now, just keep having them replace parts.

I obviously agree with this opinion since we both bought parts from HTS about the same time. You did alot more because of the power, I was simply going for a reliable positive shifting trans on little more than stock motor that didn't eat clutches and steels every 8K miles.

:chain:

I'm going with HTS parts for mine. They are nice people and Marianne Hawk (owner's wife) is very responsive via email. I decided against SunCoast a few months back when I called and was like "I want to talk about parts for my SRT-10 Ram 48RE and the guy was like 'what's that?'". HTS knew exactly what the SRT-10 is and based on my future goals, has helped me narrow down what I need from them. Joe (Yellow venom) has also helped point me in the right direction due to his experiences with HTS parts.

I've also had my tranny checked by my tranny guy at the end of my season in the fall after I'm done for the year before it goes into hibernation and my tranny guy is amazed with these parts, being there is no colour change in the oil( still bright red) no burnt smell ( still smells like the day he put the oil in ) the marks line right back up where he originally adjusted it ( meaning virtually no wear to the bands) and it shifts super FIRM just like the first day I drove it with new parts in it and I'm pushing some pretty decent power through it, and it gets driven as I built it for, I do lots of manually shifting with it and I break loose in 1st,2nd and 3rd, just proof that these HTS parts hold up very well a d Dusty Hawk builds trannies for the over 1000HP diesel guys and they hold together very well too!! Great guys to deal with there!!
Best of luck on your build! :)

Not to mention his parts are built with high TQ in mind for the diesel boys, so they are high hp/high tq ready parts.

HTS is definitely the way to go. They try to help you out not rip you off. I spoke to Dusty personally and he could have fed me BS about what I needed and I would have been none the wiser. He explained to me the issues and sold me what I needed to make it right. His wife is also good to deal with as was previously stated.

I am only adding this because I had the same experience with them as others have had and am simply confirming it. Good quality parts and good people looking to get you what you need.
