At almost 40, she's still one of the very coolest aircraft ever made, IMO.

I have to agree. She's one tough bitch too!!

They were scheduled to go out of service back in the 90's during Desert Storm. But, they proved so useful in that campaign, that they kept them in service!!:rock:

When Joanne was in the air force her job was A-10 tech, worked on the A-10 engines mostly, they are def a tough bird.

Yep, they even updated them to the A-10C configuration with brand new glass cockpits.

Talk about TOUGH... this Hoggy made it back to base after getting the shit shot outta it during Desert Freedom. Try that shit with a F-117. :D

Don't know if all of these are true but I've heard that:

The pilot flies in a titanium tub for protection from ground fire.
Firing the Gatling gun actually decelerates the plane.
A one second burst from the gun can cover every square inch of a football field. (Don't know about this one).

Awesome aircraft. Saw them making strafing runs while training in South Carolina. I was driving by their practice field when a couple came in and fired their guns. Their gun noise sounds like it's doing a raspberry.

badass plane for sure:rock:

love the sound of their guns.

i love the sound of an A-10 in the mornin............................................

sounds like a proper ass kickin:rock:

(in my best Robert Duvall voice:D )

awesome.
but I think the "bullet every inch" thing is confused with "puff the magic dragon"
another awesome weapons platform

Jake this is Kim's plane. She was one of my UPT students. She actually landed it in a poor condition never landed before, only in a simulator.

They are still a spectacular fighter after all the new technology fighters that have come about to this day. I can remember seeing them every day all day when I lived in Tucson. Davis Monthan Air Force Base was around the corner and they performed tactical manuevers all day long. The " Warthog" or "Warhog" as it used to be called. Also had names such as "tank destroyer" as well. And as most have said, to hear the cannons roar even for the 2-3 seconds, was amazing! You knew thousands of shells were spent in that quick a time!! Somewhere around " Area 51" they either do tactical or surveillance as I was cruising a very desolate, non-travelled highway from Vegas to Reno ( 395? maybe) dubbed the "Extraterrestrial Highway", when out of the blue one drops outta sky from the sun and is heading right down the highway in front of me and towards me. At first I was like kick ass, since I knew it was an A-10 from a long ways away! Well, this sum bitch kept on coming right at me low and fast, and just as he was a few hundred yards or so out, he pulled up! Scared the shit outta me and my first instinct was to stop and get out and watch to see where he was headed to. Well, I'll be damned if he didn't immediately turn around and slowly come right back at me? He had alot more altitude this time but was going as slow as that plane could fly, which is pretty slow. Again, right over my head and down the highway. Now this highway has straights for 20+ miles so you can see forever as it is mostly flat as well. Well he proceeded to do this about 4 more times and actually felt I was being watched/escorted away from the "Area 51" proximity?

Had to share since I figured at least someone from here has had a similar encounter on this highway? It was within 30 miles of Rachel, Nevada for anyone that knows this area.:dontknow:

He was probably doing practice strafing runs, and using the highway as a practice strip. They don't always "go live" when training.

Pound for Pound best aerial war machine ever created, i got a chance to see them unload those 30mm cannons when i was stationed in Camp Pendleton, CA. The sounds alone gives you wood ( LOL )

hey bone i've heard that they can attack do a 360 and be back on the target in less than 30 seconds any truth to it?
