what would someone do to sell gold if they had large amounts of like 100s of pounds

the reason i asked because my cousin was saying you just cant sell gold and i just watched this thing on dubai and thats all they had was gold you could sell large amounts of gold right?

GIVING that gold is a primary commodity,you can command anything you want with that amount, and is always easy to sell, their is always a demand for gold to supplament ones portfolio.

When people go to buy gold,its on paper, they dont actually take possession, precious metal is one of the best investments. to have 100 LBs of gold would be a very tidy sum, and to have that much in phisical form, there would be no problem unloading it.

and there are a few places to sell it but it would have to be Assay'ed(to detect purity) then melted down into bullion form.

That's not necessarily correct. Gold is weighed in "Troy" ounces which is approximatley 12 ounces to the pound.
