I just got a phone call from my little brother who's in Iraq!!!
He's stationed with Delta Company on the north side of Baghdad, doing customs for the U.S. Navy.

I posted on a friends blog the other day, but wanted to share this with you folks as well:

"I hate to get all serious on everyone, but this one hits pretty close to home (literally).

My little brother signed up for his THIRD tour in the U.S. Navy. On his past two trips, he's been 500 miles off-shore, on a huge aircraft carrier, directing planes on the flight deck. Not exactly a keg party, but still not 'in the line of fire' so to speak.

On this tour, he's offically in the shit. He flew out of the U.S. on 9.11.06 (nice touch, eh?), and then did a couple of hops to his destination: North Baghdad.

Now, don't any of you get political on me or I'll whip your asses like it's a ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

No matter what you think about this conflict or any others, the one thing you should do is support what the men and women are doing. They are there under orders, doing a job. A job that's necessary so you can sit on your ass and read this.

Support them before they go.
Support them while they are there.
Support them when they return home.

That's not a lot to ask.

You can praise or bash the country leaders and higher-ups all you want, but please be a human fucking being and support our troops.

For a little dose of what it's like being "there", check out these pics:

His bunk (aka "hooch").

Another shot. He shares the room with another guy.

Not too bad on the inside, eh? Just wait...we're getting to the good part....

Out the front door.

Note the lovely sandbag planters.

Here's the gate to the yard.

Anyone remember the movie 'King Kong' (the good one, with Jeff Bridges)? "It's not what they're trying to hold in. It's what they're trying to keep out!"

The front yard.

Not a lot of mowers there.

There's my brother.

I wouldn't trust him with a bagel and the Navy gives him a gun (two actually!)

And here he is "in action" on his way to check for bad guys.

I'm not asking for prayers or money or anything like that.
Just think about what he and the other folks are doing, FOR YOU, the next time you begin typing.

Thank you.
"

We had a nice chat for a few minutes, then he was out the door headed to do some ops. He said, "If you can score me a Viper badge, I'll put it on my Humvee and get you guys some pics.". I said, "I'll see what I can do."

We don't have any VTCOA mini-stickers or t-shirts left, do we? :D

I'm going to send him a link to this thread so he and his crew can read what you guys have to say to the troops over there. They LOVE hearing from us (even if we are a bit demented. LOL).

Post up!

God Bless our troops!! - They are doing what needs to be done. Get them all a Viper badge ............ Thank you troops :D

Good luck to him and to all of our brave Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines. May each and every one of them find their way safely home. Thanks for keeping the tradition alive, there is nothing in this world so feared as a US Fighting Man or Woman.

Where in Baghdad is he? What camp? His room looks just like mine and the living areas do too. He might be on the same camp as me.

Maybe you bunk with him and don't even know it :p ;) :dontknow: :D

K.....
I often think of what it will be like to have a son in conflict, perhaps by what your brother is doing will allow mine to stay home when they are older. 3 tours.......he is not getting any smarter, maybe next time. May God Bless him, and his family. Thanks for sharing .

My wife and I share a room. :p :D
Hey - right on!! :D

Thanks to your brother for what he is doing for us, and thanks to you, for letting us know.

This may be predictable coming from me....... But I don't give a shit.......

Father in heaven, we pray for all of these fighting men and women. We pray that Your angels will surround and protect them.... And that they will rejoin us soon......all in one piece......

In Your Name we pray.......Amen...

Kevin, I can really hear how proud you are of him. Thats awesome dude! I have nothing but respect for those guys that join up and willingly go and keep going back into the conflict. They believe in something and are willing to stand up and be counted. That, is something.

God bless him and all the others! Educating pics. I had no idea of their quarters.

tell him to keep his head down and thanks. people in the military are special people. have my upmost respect.

God be with all of our troops, and bring them home safely!!

If they are reading this thread then I would rather address them directly:

Thank you all for everything that you do!! You are out there, so that we can be here, sitting on our fat lazy asses not doing much to better the American way of life. It is because of you, not our own actions, that we are Americans, that we are free, and that our children are and will continue to be free!! God Bless you all! Keep your heads on a swivel so that you can return home to enjoy what you have worked so hard to preserve: FREEDOM!!
FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!!

You can post either directly to my brother or put up something for all the troops. Like Mikey, this thread swings both ways. :D

Thanks for the PM's about the badges you guys! I'll get his mailing address and forward it to you folks. Let me know the shipping charges and I'll send out cash to cover that.

Good luck charm, or something to put a smile on their faces as they head out on ops in the Humvee, or whatever other use, I'm sure they will enjoy it. I believe it's the little things that help them endure and continue doing what they do.

I'll have him send pics ASAP. We can forward them to the guys on the Hummer forum- "Gotcha!" LOL
