I got this in an email from a friend, maybe somebody can validate it. But, it's pretty scary!!

FYI.......I don't know where the list came from but I figured with Christmas around the corner that it would not hurt to share the info....

The stores will not inform you regarding this issue with gift cards, you have to ask. If you have any gift cards, use them now.

I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give gift cards around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will not be honored after the holidays.

Stores that are planning to close after Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even though the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law preventing them from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as 'Bankruptcy Planning).

Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be cautious about.

Circuit City (filed Chapter 11)

Ann Taylor 117 stores nationwide closing

Lane Bryant, Fashion Bug ,and Catherine's to close 150 stores nationwide

Eddie Bauer to close stores 27 stores and more after January

Cache will close all stores

Talbots closing down specialty stores

J. Jill closing all stores (owned by Talbots) Pacific Sunwear (also owned by Talbots)

GAP closing 85 stores

Footlocker closing 140 stores more to close after January

Wickes Furniture closing down

Levitz closing down remaining stores

Bombay closing remaining stores

Zales closing down 82 stores and 105 after January

Whitehall closing all stores

Piercing Pagoda closing all stores

Disney closing 98 stores and will close more after January.

Home Depot closing 15 stores

Macys to close 9 stores after January

Linens and Things closing all stores

Movie Galley Closing all stores

Pep Boys Closing 33 stores

JC Penney closing a number of stores after January

Ethan Allen closing down 12 stores.

Wilson Leather closing down all stores

Sharper Image closing down all stores

K B Toys closing 356 stores

Loews to close down some stores

Dillard's to close some stores

I would add a risky store...Sears...

Analysts are saying that if the Christmas season is not strong for Sears, that they will have to shut their doors...America without Sears...wow...

Thanks for the heads up! Gift cards have always been an easy way to give a gift to the family up north.

hey thanks ntw0rk,and gee roy that would be weird:dontknow:

Mervyns just closed all their stores or are in the process as well. Hadn't heard about Sears, that would be a real shame, hope none of my tools break in the future.

Holy store closings Batman:eek: NO Wilson Leather:mad: Going to have to make some leather coat purchases before they close. Love their coats....

Not looking good for the coming year. Recession anyone.....

Can not speak for any of the other stores on the list, but Linens 'n Things has not been selling gift cards since Oct. 16th. The gift cards that are out now with balances can still be used as tender. All stores had to destroy the inventory of gift cards once the liqiudiators had control of stores.

It's time to take the medicine folks. We are NOT in a recession. We are heading into depression. Hang on tight. The $#!t storm is about to hit with full force.

I thought I would add some insight as to the posting of 15 Home Depot's. They have been closed since March and April...All the stores that were either seasonal, Not producing or under 10 million in sales closed. Mostly in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Pennsylvania. There are no more stores slated to close in the near future in fact they are going ahead with store that were planned to open since 2006. Next year there will be 2 new stores alone in the Tucson area and one here in Maricopa  So while they closed 15 stores that made no profit they are still expanding. Home Depot also owns everything out right and owe nothing to anyone other then vendors of course.

Sales are way down company wide...My store alone is posting -12% comps and is stronger the the district as a whole...Even though we are doing that the company still posted stronger then average earnings...We tightened our belts cause we had to and in hind sight very progressive move on HD's end to have the foresight to read the writing on the wall.

Lowe's is having it far worse then we are because they suck :D Eventually when you treat your people like Shit....Karma smacks you in the face.....I would be surprised if that company makes it for another 2 years.....You heard it here first :marchmellow:

Was just reading that some analysts are upgrading Lowe's due to their cash position...and lowering Home Depot????

I know nothing about this sector...I hope you are right. My local Home Depot is much more popular than the new Lowe store a mile away.

And I keep asking for you when in Home Depot and the employees just look at me and frown:dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Dillard's should have been closed down completely years ago. Right along with Montgomery Wards..

Wilson's is just too pricey. What do they get for a leather "biker" jacket? I'm guessing around $250 or so (which is still a little cheaper than harley hehe). I got my newest one a few years back at a local outlet. Yeah, it's some Korean brand or something, but it ran me $60 and has held up just fine. It would probably last me forever if I could get this gut to stop growing hehehe.

I can completely understand that Bob:(

I have a Wilson's outlet around me, so I always pay less for last years coats... Still look good to me:)
