You are right. You can also tell by the front brakes.

That's why I'd guess someone stole the wheels as it sat there, since it appears as though that's all that's missing. If the engine and/or some interior is missing then I may think abandoned, but that doesn't look like a place one would normally dump a stolen/stripped vehicle.
