Surprised nobody chimed in on these. High priced for sure but clarity beyond anything I have heard. Had the acoustimass 5.1 and it was ok. All highs unless the volume was at 10
Bowers & Wilkins are the best IMHO I do not,Or can not own them.To much coin. I do see them installed at places i work though.A lady we are building a condo for just bought 6-speakers @ $20,000 each.

Not a particular fan of Bose myself, where do you think they get all that money for advertising anyway?! They're over-rated (by the average consumer, not necessarily the audiophile crowd) and over-priced. Don't get me wrong, it's good stuff, and if you're set on Bose, find a Bose Outlet or something...

The set-up at my previous house was a 5.1 with all Klipsch speakers. They rocked quite nicely and were pretty affordable. Very nice quality.

My current home theater is a dedicated 9 seat (staged, 5 seats above 4 seats) with a 50 inch Sony Bravia XBR, Yamaha DSP-A1 amp with a 400 DVD changer and high def cable box (both of those are HDMI'd into the TV). 7.1 in wall speakers; 5 up front (2 main, 2 effects and center channel), 2 in back and a giant stand alone 500W sub. All of the speakers are Polk and they just flat out pound.

Theater level listening volume is right around a 1/4 volume, a 1/3 is ridiculous and at 1/2 it lifts the ceiling tiles and actually hurts. The lobby scene from The Matrix is unreal and Blackhawk Down and Saving Private Ryan are likewise awesome. Didn't see my friends all that much until I got that little project completed, no they won't leave...what's up with that?!

Sounds deadly, your setup sounds similar to what I wanted to do but my darn house isnt big enough. Maybe in the next house. Sorry about your friends not leaving, maybe instead of Blackhawk down you need to plug in PSI I love you (I have no idea what this is, got the name from the wife:D ) , then Im sure they will go home.

Hey Tyler its Nuance is the name, not sure if thats the proper spelling though.

Back in my bachelor days I had a buddy staying at my place with a Nuance setup and it was impressive. The only thing is that I dont have a bunch of extra space for big tower speakers. I mean they will fit but Id rather not have them there, the room looks cleaner to me.

I gotta admit, the only reason I bought the BOSE at the time was because I needed a small head unit to fit our stand. The opening is just under 17 inches wide and anything else at the time (about 6 yrs ago) that small was crap. I do like it, it sounds good...very clear, but the new Samsung I have in the basement sounds just as good for way less money. They both have small speakers that I mounted on the wall, out of the way. Actually in the basement with the Samsung sometimes the dog goes nuts when we watch certain programs, it sounds that good. He never does that upstairs with the BOSE. The remote for the BOSE is RF so you can adjust the volumn from anywhere in the house which is nice but not critical. I just find that the big high-power systems most of the time are overkill for me. I like loud music only in vehicles when I am by myself, I don't like loud clubs and don't enjoy having to yell to carry on a conversation. Most people listen to audio well under 25 Watts most of the time not including the sub. I used to work in a stereo shop in my teens and that was what the reps told me at the time so no I do not have the facts to back that, it's just what I was told.

Would I buy a BOSE system again? No, even though I like it, they are over-priced and I just don't have that kind of disposable cash laying around. With so many choices out there now you can get a much better system for the same money.
I am happy with my Samsung, it's HDMI, has small speakers out of the way and sounds good. But hey it doesn't take much to please me anymore.

Tyler, you are just going to have to go shopping and check them out, read as many online reviews as you can, even check out consumer reports.

Don't let anyone make up your mind for you, save the cash you would have spent on the BOSE going forged instead.

Klipsche Speakers and either a high end yamaha or if you have the money Denon...you wont regret it.

I assume you had a system with a sub and it still didnt satisfy? Ive never actually heard a Bose system, just heard that they are the best.

Yes, I had the amplified sub, and it was lacking when it came to action movies. My buddy has a Harmon Kardon system, and for movie sound, the Bose could not compete. However, again, for music clarity, the Bose is hard to beat.

denon was bought out this year and quality went way down i have pre buy out denons in my house 5 of them to be exact

Me neither but then again I haven't kept up on everything the way I used too...I pretty much knew what I wanted on my newest home theater set-up (the DSP-A1 amp was a carryover) so I went ahead and did it without too much fanfare or hemming and hawing (or additional research, since I already know everything... ;) )

They fell off my radar until recently when I started looking really hard at Ford GTs...I had no idea they supplied the sound system for it, which I thought was pretty cool.

ah some one else with a DSP-A1. love mine. I still have that, a mitsu 65" DLP, Klipsh reference 3 series surround sound system, sunfire mark IV sub. love my setup. but will ultimately get a KEF reference speaker system, Velodyne DD-18 and the new reference yamaha processor.

and macintosh amps are still good.

krell and parasound rock also both their processors and amps.

Yup. Had a high end audio store many years ago, and we sold, fine tuned, and upgraded all kinds of Mac gear. A pair of their mono amps driving a pair of KEF Reference 107's was audio bliss.

It wasn't to be outdone until several years later that a session with a full Cello system by Mark Levinson (Cello was his brand after he sold his namesake brand). The full Krell stack driving a pair of Wilson WAMM's was also a near-religious experience.:D Granted, that was in excess of $100.000.00 for a two-channel (yes, stereo) audio system. At those levels of audio you could, I kid you not, hear the difference between different power cords, let alone speaker cables and interconnects.;) Would love to have a complete MBL system some day if I get back into 2-channel listening.

The Velodyne DD-18 will be one of my next investments. I have a Velodyne ULD-18 servo feedback remote amplified sub now, but it's going to be challenging to balance it in the new room. The DD series practically does it all for you.

Used to have a Parasound 5.1 system. Going to a Denon for an A/V processor, powered by Parasound and ADA amps. Should be a reasonable setup.
