After riding the circuit....

So today ride at circuit Zolder, well run, after a round of 6 it already ended.
Suddenly I felt when braking in curves that the power steering dropped...
If i stepped on the gas it was better, but not quite as it should / was.

When I arrived I looked in the pits or the oil in the reservoir of the power steering was still enough, and so everything seemed ok.
then I felt the power steering belt if he was well stretched, was ok...

So when I turned the engine idling, and then try to turn the wheel left and right, I have 2 hands need to do this , when I step the gas to 2000 rpm, it suddenly becomes a lot easier, but still not what it was.
I let loose the gas to idle (+ -700 rpm) and hops, again I hardly can turned the wheel...
the rest is all right with the truck, I checked all fluids , no heating or light that go on...
i even drove back home (+- 80 miles) and no problems on the highway , but when i go off the highway and stopped it was there again.
what can this problem be...?

Power steering pumps seem weak on Dodges and Fords...huge coolers are now used on the newer trucks. The fluid needs to be changed often (5000mi or less) using atf 4.

After 5 laps myself once on Zolder i had no brakes anymore.... so, we must accept it , our trucks aren't made for a race track.... :rock:

i'm gonna try to change de oil , is there a draining hole ?
or do i have to pump it out the reservoir...?
because there is no oil out...its still full.

You will need to pull a couple lines off Sammy, both around the steering rack and let them drain till empty, the resevior you may need to suck or draw the fluid out.

I dont think it should take more than 2 qts to refill, I havent had the time to look up the actuall specs as of yet, but that should be close, use a good atf +4 fluid

you can also take a good smell of the fluid also, it will be like tranny fluid and have a a burnt smell to it.

there are guages to check the pressure of the system at idle, you may call a couple shops and ask them if they have these, all they are is pressure guages to determine what psi the pump is putting out.

I personally think its the pump, I dont have a price on me at the moment bud, it would be monday before I could get that.

i pull a hose off, jack the front end up & turn the wheel lock to lock a few times to flush the system.

i also use Amsoil ATF. can feel a difference just changin the juice.

if ya get with Stinker & see if the P/S lines he offers will work on an '06 that would be a great improvement & piece of mind from leaks & possibile blowin a hose.

one is supposed to turn the fan on full to rid the system of air, with a reader.

yours sounds like a belt or tensiner prob

you should start searching for a new pump. I doubt changing the fluid is gonna change anything. just going off the fact that if you rev it you get more assist. Tells me the pump is cavitating
