So i was thinking about putting better sleeves in the block while its apart... im doing fully forged bottom end, heads, cam, ported intake, full exhaust and possibly a 400 shot...maybe a tad less. but id like to be able spray a pretty big shot.

my question is...if i spray a 400 shot or thereabouts....are the stock sleeves good enough to hold that or will i be need stronger sleeves?

Buy the best sleeves you can. Darton is a good choice. This is not a part to spare the dollars.

But do yall think I need them for the amount of spray I'm shooitn

Yes. If you only used it occasionally you might be ok but you will use it more than you think. Like Prof said, building the engine is not the right place to get cheap. If it can't take the abuse and comes apart you will more than likely need a new block, built and sleeved. Think MUCH more money than doing it right the first time around.

Darton sleeves are installed by Race Engine Development. He owns the design of the Viper ones. His are designed to go up to a 4.16" bore (wet sleeve) or 4.08" (dry sleeve) and still have plenty of meat in the walls for strength. The Darton catalog says they are only available through him.

wet, coolant touches liner.
dry it does not

Gen 3's are Dry sleeves only the Gen 1's were Wet. Wet sleeve would allow you to go for a bigger bore size (4.15"+) and Dry (4.080" Max). Both are comparable in strength.
