Early this summer I picked up a Scan Gauge II Scan Gauge. One of the interesting pieces of info you can access is the current air intake temp. When I got this Phx was already blazing hot and I found that the intake temps were a pretty consistent 25-30F warmer than ambient temps while moving at a pretty good clip down the road. In stop and go traffic I saw temps over 200F. Thats some pretty warm air going into an engine!

Now that its cooled down I figured the temp difference would be less....its not. Early mornings ambient temps are low 60's and even then I'm reading 25-30F higher at the intake. The factory intake/air cleaner is sort of like a cold air intake. Air enters in the top right corner of the grill and enters the factory air box right away. Granted its not a sealed system from the grill to the airbox but I figured at highway speeds there would be enough air movement that you'd see near ambient temps at the air temp sensor. Granted I'm using the truck ambient temp gauge as the reference and while not the most accurate of measuring devices mine seems to be pretty accurate to ambient temps.

I'm curious to learn if others who have aftermarket or Dodge's CAI installed and have the same Scan Gauge or like device to be able to access the factory temp sensor to see what temp differences you are experiencing.

It appears the factory air box is not so good! If anyone local to me and has an aftermarket CAI and would like to try my Scan Gauge for a few days then let me know.
