Just went to the clutch guy and he was saying its worth the 500.00 dollars because it makes the engine spin faster? Is this guy playing with me or is he being straight?
He is trying to talk me into a SPEC stage 2 clutch and replacing rear seal while he is in there for 1700.00 for clutch alunium flywheel and labor
 
not a bad price if it includes labor. yes a aluminum flywheel will make it spin a little faster because it makes less rotating mass on the crankshaft. tie 5 lbs. to a 2' string and spin it then tie 1lb to the string and spin it. you'd be amazed the differance ;)
 
Need to talk to SPEC themselves to find out what you should get -
The flywheel mass is important for rpm and there are different clutch pads for different uses.
 
Depends on which builder/mechanic you talk to as well. My builder/tuner says the heavier OEM flywheel is best for our heavy trucks. :dontknow:

A lighter flywheel allows the engine to rev up faster, it could also be described as a snappier throttle response. That is more useful for auto crossers. A heavier flywheel provides inertia for the ratating mass causing a smoother idle. It also aids in just keeping the engine running. It is easier to stall the motor when using a light weight flywheel.
 
Many of us have gone to the Centerforce clutch and Fidanza light weight flywheel. Almost no problems that I know of...as long as you break it in correctly...the prescribed procedure is 500 miles of city driving...no hard accelerations, no dumping the clutch, no slipping the clutch...then it becomes the best clutch you could hope for in a street/strip vehicle...

There are probably 200 installs like the one I describe.

Consider going the way we have, rather than going off on a tangent that no one has been before...or don't, certainly your choice.
 
Depneds on what you want from your truck.....for Drag racing....you want a heavy flywheel....for zipping through the canyons a lighter one....you are going to need 2 trucks...I don't see any way around it....
 
Heavy flywheels are great for engines that don't have a lot of torque. That's not a problem with our trucks. I vote for the lightweight flywheel myself.

Now in my opinion, SPEC is shit. I had one put in my daughters Mustang. Chattered like a bitch. Damn pressure plate was warped by over .050. The shop I had install it called SPEC. They wanted him to ship the flywheel, clutch disk, and pressure plate to them so they could inspect it before they would warranty it. Sorry, you will be without your vehicle for 3 to 4 weeks. Well Brad told them to go to hell and installed another brand.

Anyway SPEC customer service sucks.

:dito: I had a SPEC in my Impala SS and I hated it. It chattered and was out of balance.
 
The aluminum flywheel didn't work well for me.......

I got the Rob (RPS) Smith set up. It was like burning over a thousand bucks in the ashtray.

My stock set up has served me wheel since I got the haydraulics upgrade and went back to the OEM clutch and flywheel.

But I'm not making huge hp numbers...... just enough to be dangerous. :p ;) :D

Does anybody have a Spec clutch in thier truck here? I am really not sure. I know there are several brands you definatly dont want......not sure about Spec. Like the Prof said, there are hundreds with the centerforce/findanza setup. I have never heard of one of them failing........cept maybe Red.....he may need to chime in here.

I do know VPRPWR has the setup and had over a hundred runs at the track with a SC and nos, with no problems!!!
