The main aim here was NOT to provide gamers with an exciting and entertaining challenge; it was to give Gates more of your dough. That includes me since he got mine too. Although many say the game was short the online gaming is pretty good. I haven't beaten the game yet because I had to send my 360 back to Microsoft for a replacement unit the day I bought Halo 3 (the box was already there waiting to be packed and shipped). Then the unit arrived the day before I had to leave out the country. This console replacing is getting on my nerves... Third 360 unit so far.
The multiplayer is similar to Halo 2. A few more weapons, better graphics, but the game play is still the same. A little too over animated and not enough fuction to the play. You can mash the malee button 5 times and still not throw a punch. Whereas Halo 1 would respond to every command given with the controller. There is a good 30+ page article on it on the XBOX live webpage; software similar to Halo 2 for multiplayer.
