Anybody know anything about patents?

I came up with what I think is a pretty good idea. I've done some searching to see if there is an existing patent and haven't found anything. But I really don't know what I'm doing hehe.

So, I was wondering if anyone here has any experience in searching and applying for patents. If so, let me know.

Figure about $400 an hour. You will hate doing it yourself...

Myself and a partner invented a special screwdriver. Went to patent the idea and $15,000.00 later only the handle was unique enough to have a patent.

Damn, none of that sounds very encouraging. But if this isn't patented already it is a big $$$ idea. Guess I need to keep researching.

Also you can upgrade if there is a patent for whatever your think if it is an improvement they have a special patent that won't infinge on the original patent owner. BUt they are right get a lawyer and if it is a real good Idea, KEEP IT TO YOURSELF until you get it registered, myself and a few investors got screwed a couple of times by opening our mouths to early. One example the guy who invented Medi ALert (the Ive fallen and can't get up) opened his mouth and went to the wrong investors, well they kicked his ass to the curb patented it and millions of dollars later he is still a broke ass, when it comes to money trust know until all your angles are covered. IMO

Before you talk to anyone, even an attorney, make them sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement, commonly known as an NDA. You should be able find one of these online somewhere.

I have two patents and always use a Patent Lawyer.

Damn, I was thinking of doing that.. I take my lab to the dog beach every weekend and I have cut up many branches from the yard into "the perfect dog stick"..Every weekend multiple people ask "Where did you get those great sticks?"

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to find the cure for cancer to get rich...
