I'm competing in a Strongman Competition in Columbia, SC on the 16th and 17th at the Five Points St. Patrick's Festival. Its the fourth largest St. Patt's festival in the US and a great time. The competition has all the top American Strongman. Its a great time and the contest starts Friday night at 7 PM on Santee Avenue with a large Truck pull and several other cool events. The contest continues at 11:00 AM Saturday on the Main Stage with a last man standing Deadlift and other events including the famous Atlas Stones ranging from 300 lbs up to an earth pounding 400 lbs (World Strongest Man only goes up to 375 lbs) loaded to platforms. It's a great family atmosphere during the day but at night the place gets off the hook!! Here's a link to the Festivals web page http://www.stpatsinfivepoints.com/ and the info for the Strongman Competition http://www.stpatsinfivepoints.com/family_strongman.php (yeah, thats a pic of yours truly!!) If you dont have plans and live with in an hour of so, come check it out. Its an awesome time. Anyone coming, let me know, I'lll keep a lookout for ya!!

Here's a shot of me from SC last year

There's a chance I might be able to make it.
I may have to park cars at ATL Motor Speedway for our unit however.
I'll let you know.
Good luck either way with your competition.

Won't be able to make it, but good luck with the comp!

Ever heard of Tommy Hawk? I know he was into competitions, just not sure if he ever did/does the strong man stuff.

I compete both days  As far as directions, Mapquest Columbia, SC, the Festival is HUGE and the competition will be on Harden Street near Green Street Saturday Morning. Friday night its on Santee Avenue right outside of a nice bar (I cant remember the name).

Anyone that doesn't have plans should check out the Strongman Competition for sure. If you've ever seen it on ESPN, you gotta come see us in person, you wont be disapointed. Plus the festival is just awesome. There was well over 30,000 people in attendance last year. There's tons of music with five different stages playing all different genres. The main stage has 3 Days Grace and Corey Smith headlining.

Sorry I won't make it to this one, Derrick. Be sure to post up some pics/videos.

Competition Idea:
Human Drag Race!!!
-In one lane, the strongmen pull an SRT-10.
-In the other lane, Stinker drives his RC.

That'd be AWESOME! :D

(Who loves ya, Tony!!!)

Thanks, I'm coming back from a herniated disk and a massive hematoma in my spine. I suffered the injury in Oct, 2006. This is my first comp since then so I'm hoping all goes well!!

The name doesn't ring a bell, maybe he's an amature?

All the competitors are staying at the the Hampton Inn on Gervais Street. I stayed there last year and it was a really nice place and about $120 a night for single occupancy room with a King bed. I've also stayed at the Clarion Hotel (dont know the address) and it was also pretty nice and about the same cost. Everything is pretty expensive in Columbia during the week for obvious reasons. Admission for the festival is $10. That covers all the bands and shows, just bring money for beer!!

I'm flying down tomorrow early afternoon. Anyone that is interested in going, let me know, I'll keep a look out for ya!!

Thanks. I have to work on Friday. Sat may work. Just got the father-in-law in town tonight so I may have a baby sitter!

What about beads?!

Try and make it if ya can. Bring friends, its a cool place to party!! I saw a few people with beads last year kinda like Marti Gras (if thats what you mean). As everyone gets drunk at night, anything goes, trust me!!!!!!!!!!! If you come, give me a shout while I'm competing. The competitors have a little tent set up to keep us outta the sun. Just come over and get my attention between events. My first name is Derek. Hope to see you and maybe some other guys from the forum while down there!
:star:
