Does anyone have an extra driver rear brake caliper for an 05 RC. I can't believe it but, I seemed to have muscle fu#$ed mine.

I pried a little with a screw driver and one of the pistons crumbled. What it this sh!t..pot metal?

Maybe Ill call the dealer and see if they have the rebuild kits as well.

Thanks for any help.:)

Check the list of people that just did the group purchase of the new Stinker Detroit Locker rear end...all of us got new brakes....I sold my entire rear end with the brakes...but everyone else will have two extra calipers....choose who ever is closest to you...

call Oriellys auto, you should be able to find a piston kit

Thanks guys. I feel like such a dumb ass.

I dont think there are any OReily's in the Western New York Area. But, I'll look in the phone book.

I would prefer a caliper that is unmodified but I appreciate the help. Ill look at that thread.

Please let me know if you see something. I was supposed to be at the track this weekend. Looks like Im not going to make it. SH!T.

Guys,

I have a piston and seal kit on the way. Has anyone replaced just the piston before? Any pointers are sure appreciated. What Ill do is take pics and post all of my misadventures on the "How to" section. Nice...Im a dumb ass....

removing the pistons manually can be a pain, well, unless you do them like you did:D muscle man!!LOLO

but remove the caliper, use a rag, thin wood, something to put in between the pistons of the caliper, and use compressed air in the hose mounting fitting and slowly push air into caliper and the will pop out.

but warning

keep all fingers away!! it is very very dangerous!! if the piston sticks the least then pops out , it does come out with strong force.

so be careful

oh and keep everything super clean

See, the thing is...its getting dark outside....I'm getting cold....damn caliper is sticking...so i pry just a little harder and fuc#$in POP. Kewl...it's off but what is this... very sharp piece of extra metal that came off.

There's a dimple thats on the brake pad. Its hidden inside the piston. I didnt know it was there. This dimple catches the edge of the piston.

What I recommend to all, even though its a pain in the ass, is to remove the ENTIRE caliper with mount. Loosen the pin bolts first. After the entire assembly is off, you can pull the caliper off the bracket. The pads will remain in the bracket. You can them remount the bracket. Install new pads and re-install the caliper.

This is what I should have done. Ill post this on the How to section. I see that there's a How To for the fronts. This could also happen to the fronts.

Hopefully the kit will be in tomorrow. My friend at the dealer is expiditing it.

Im going to remove the caliper and piston after work. I can't drive it anyways.

Thanks!
