There is no doubt im going with a Paxton. So im just trying to fiqure out my options , time, money and all that fun stuff.

Looking to get a heads up on the install. Probally will do the install myself. I have a garage, all the tools i could want, and all the time i need. This is the frist Viper motor i have ever had the honor to own or work on.

Allso if i do the Paxton myself, and run it with the supplied tune. Does anyone think i will make it out to Boomer from VA? Probally 10 hour + trip. Guess my guestion is how good is the supplied Paxton tune? ( If it does come with one ???) is it feesable and safe untill i can get a real tune. ?

I was looking at a Magnacharger install for my vette and honestly that looks like a cake walk other then pinning the crank. So the Paxton must be easyer specially with all the room to work with in the big ole Dodge.

Who has done the install themselfs or has the instructions online ? And can give me a heads up on advice ?

Im deffinatly getting the kit from Boomer, just i dont want to call him up and bug him hes a busy man.. When im ready to hand him my check card for all kinds of goodies, i bug him then.

NM on the PDF ,Just saw the download's part on Paxton site, its listed there, not under the details of the kit :)

If nothing else the kit from Boomer comes with pretty detailed instructions. The crank is very hard to drill, get a couple of bits to avoid multiple trips to the store. Are you running a VEC already or going to install one?

Boomer may be able to email you a program that's good enough for you to drive to him on. I reccomend having him install it. I considered doing it myself as I am pretty mechanical, done an engine swap etc, but didn't have the time. Took it to a mechanic, and even though he is a good mechanic, he hadn't had any experience with something like the Paxton. He did a couple of little things wrong and Boomer knows his own little tricks for a lot of stuff that you won't. He's busy I know, but I would wait till he can install it... you'll prob get back on the road in the same time frame.

I read over the PDF a few months ago from Paxtons site I believe. Lots of fun!! The Paxton is supposed to be "plug and play" so you should be ok to run it, although I wouldnt too hard until its tuned.

Also, are you going to upgrade the internals...ie pistons and possibly rods? The pistons are the weak point. Better to spend the money now to upgrade them vs fixing them later and posssibly other parts if something happens. Believe me, do it right the first time!!!

HAHA....its sold as plug and plaay but really.....its not even close! I had to have mine tuned to make ANY power! I think it made 17 rwhp the first dyno....after the split second timing controller was redjusted and a few other fixes it worked ok but .....def not P&P....

Thanks guys for the advice and input.

Yeah i could imagine the crank pinning is a bicth. But what isnt lol ..

As far as upgradeing the internals, i would love to.. but i cant justify pulling out the motor from a truck that only has 10k miles on it. I dont plan on running anything but safe boost. When the motor starts to show wear later down the road or if that mis happen does happen and i blow the motor.

There is no doubt im strokeing it with a rock solid bottom end. Or building a stand alone motor in my garage to go in,But my truck will soon be a garage queen and for weekends im sure the paxton running at safe levels will be ok on the stock internals for a few miles :)

Sounds like if i install the paxton i should be fine, and i will have a vec2 by then, aswell to drive it out to Boom

My main concern was how PnP the Paxton was on install.
