I have decided to build a HEMI for the Coronet. I am going with the Mopar Performance Siamese Mega Block. Chenowith Racing will line bore, square the deck and all machined surfaces and bush the lifter bores to insure accurate lifter to cam timing. My questions are will a 4.500 stroke crank with eagle rods fit in the standard cam height block? If it will fit that will make it 4.500 X 4.500 bore which is 572 cubic inches. Would you recomend the Indy Cylinder Head 426-1RA CNC heads with 295 cc intake runners with 510 cfm or the 426-1RA6 CNC heads with 325 cc and 535 cfm? I would like to run a roller cam in the .650 lift range with about 11.0 to 1 compression and 2-1050 Dominators on an intake that will fit under the WO 23 scoop I have on the car. This will be a street car that weighs around 3400 lbs. Any experience in HEMI knowledge would be appreciated. I would like to see around 750 to 800 horsepower.

Sorry, can't answer any of your questions for you, but by the sounds of it you will not have any problems hitting the 750 to 800 HP range. I'm guessing you will easily exceed it.

Be sure to keep us informed on the build. And don't forget the pictures.:D

Last year in Mopar Muscle magazine they did a hemi build challenge, where they balanced the amount of power made by the cost to make it. I think if you can find the article it might help you. I think it was in January 2006, but I am not sure.

Thanks Bill, I read all of those but they had a 7,000 rpm limit and a 500 inch limit. The HEMI really starts making power above 7000 rpm due to the port size. The SS/HA cars shift around 9,000 rpm I think. The 500 inch wedges this year made more power but there is the appeal of a HEMI when you open the hood:D :D Below are a couple of pics of the 451 wedge after I swapped the intake, headers and added a 1050 Dominator, and the car after I got the WO23 scoop on and painted. By the way the 451 is for sale!!! I will take 5500.00 from carb to pan. It will need freshening up,has eagle rods, ported 906 heads, Mopar M1 intake with 4500 flange and 1050 dominator, chrome oil pan, aluminum water pump housing, hydraulic cam and adjustable rockers. Ran 12.01 @ 116 with the former owner.

Well if you want to go farther than that, I suggest you contact Charlie Westcott. He owns and drives the Warfish Cuda that has been doing very well at the track. I might have his last name mispelled, he is in Michigan some where on the west side of the state.

I was reading an article on Indy Cylinder Head in PHR. Their 572 with the 426-1RA heads, a .650 roller, and a 1090 demon on pump gas made 871 hp and 781 lbs. ft. of torque. I definitely want to gather as much info as possible. I have built 8-440's, two of them with blowers,2-360's and 2-340's, but never a HEMI,much less one over 500 inches. A lot of it is repetitive, but heads, cams and intakes have come a long way and making it work together is the difference in " yea this thing runs strong" and "oh my gosh, just let me outa here!!!"

All those guys will be in Louisiana for the HEMI CHALLENGE April 19-21 at the O'Reilly Sports Nationals. I will definitely be in the pits looking around. The Teutons from Houma,La. bought my Blown and Injected 65 Coronet and they race HEMI'S. Will try to talk to them also, they hired one of Ray Barton's sales people and have their own dyno facility.

I think you should know Indy is not known for good customer service. They make some really good products, but they have a history of being difficult after the sale.

I talked to them on the phone and they were kinda assy. But we bought a pare of small block edelbrock heads from them at the '05 Nats and they were very helpful. Chenoweth Racing (gearsandrears.com) were extremely nice on the phone and really gave me some insight. Called me on my cell phone yesterday as I left him a message Friday. His son built a 572 for his Road Runner, makes 800 hp on pump gas.

Any company of size will have their customer service issues. You can buy ICH parts, without buying it directly from them. Just because they manufacture it doesn't mean you have to buy it directly from them. Their stuff works, to many people run it for it not to. It's like any business, you'll always have unhappy customers. 99% of business owners don't open a business to intentionally screw people over. There are also two sides to every story. Just keep that in mind, when dealing with anyone.

I might have a buyer for you... He has a 440 in his '71 Cuda right now that is TIRED. I just sent him an email... :)

IMHO if I was doing a 4.5" bore/stroke engine I would go with the Indy 572-13's.... with their HUGE Single plane intake...... and I would use a bigger lift cam also, but our street driving ideals are different LOL

I agree. I just felt he should read this first. It is always better to go into something with eyes wide open.

I think the 572-13 is a wedge head. I know the wedges make just as much power but I want to do a HEMI.
