was thinking about umbrella insurance. i understand it protects you in case your sued for various reasons. anyone have it or use it?

I do, its particularly usefull if you own assets! In other words if you dont have anything noone is going to sue you! If you have a couple of 17 year old kids driving cars you paid for or own, and they get into a fender bender its good to have. (1st thing the lawyer does is pull Mom and Dad public records) A lawyer ( accident or ambulance chaser) wont go against ( usually) 3 or more lawyers who represent the insurance company, particularly if its a half assed moocher he represents with a claim track record.

I have an umbrella auto ins policy through safeco. i have 1MIL liability on my truck. Protects me out of state and i beleve out of country also

An Umbrella policy is a cheap way of having large amount of insurance. It just kicks in after the limits on the base insurance are reached. I carry a $300K base insurance and a 2M umbrella on my business, home and vehicles...............that said, you dont need it if you have less than $500K in assets or do not expect to inherit a large estate..

i am worried about lawsuits. i have one i am starting this week, and should settle quick for allot of cash, will need to protect that and on top i am thinking it will cover me if i ever get another one of these

in a place where it would be damaged as a result of my actions...
i really don't want to have to come up with 900k on my own.

this is not 1920, you dont do handshake contracts, and people dont always pay their bills. each month my bills go unpaid i add 10% as it is in the contract.
and that 10,000 dollar bill will become 21,000 in 8 months. :p i would rather they not pay. i make more that way.
