just have a few questions for anyone in this industry . need to purchace new excavator to dig foundations for cookie cutter homes up here in canada .. full basements... just looking for input on size and brand you think would be best for this operation..
thanks

go with a cat. i've used cat, deere, case. it all depends on the amount of $$$ you wanna spend and the size of jobs you are gonna do. bigger is not always better

hey bro the houses i will be digging are on a say 50 foot lot and about 1500 to 2200 sqft .... and maybe doing some town house compleses also rows of 8.... and the reason i konw so little is because im just getting into this . i have a builder friend who offered me 100 to 400 foundations a year to start so im jumping at the chance just need all the info i can get... and ya the viper truck site probbably not the best but its another source to look at...thanks for your input..

Basements on all?

How many units a year?

and one important question, how long will this last, has the guy been in biz for a good long while or is it fairly new?

the reason I ask is some companies nowwaday's will rent the equipment for long term, due to maintance and break down issues rather than buy.

But for what you are thinking of doing a good bac hoe would be good, especially for cleanin up, footings, small lot clearing, the only part that may take a little more time is the basement part. but that can be taken care of with a different size bucket.

He is correct Cat's are the best but mega $ jsut like Deere, but they tend to be less onthe maintance side, untill something major happens.

ummm well his projection for this year is 100 homes all with basements for foundations.. and this guy is 2nd generation builder his fauther does 400 + homes a year and shawn the one i will be starting for has been doing this for 5 years so and his fauther 30 yrs . i think hes basicaly running off dads money but eitherway i think he should be around for a while .. he says if i can handle more i can move on to his fauthers houses aswell.. the work i have been offered is do dig and trench all 100 foundations all basements , plus backfill topsoil and sod the yards .... so i need a excavator and skidstear of somesort .

and ya the rental i heard someone else mentioning that .. do you think that would be a better way to go for say the first year to make sure everything is 100% a go ... and ya thanks for the info so far..

Well since it is all new for ya , check around with a few companies and see if
any offer a rental service plan, like for a year or so.

that may be the way to check if ya like it or not, If ya buy one straight out, and find out later ya dont like it, then your stuck with selling the equipment.

Sit down write down all options, and go from there:D

hmmmm i like that backhoe link you sent the 710G 22foot depth for digging looks like fairly simuar specks to some of the mid size excavators and could be used for much more than just diggin
