i have an older sony vaio with a 60 gig hard drive,it was formatted with 40 gig and 20 gig,the os is on the 20 gig side and i have no space left ,can i somehow take gigs from the other part of the drive and reconfigure the hard drive without wiping the drive clean and reinstalling the os and all other programs?
anyone know how to reconfigure my laptop hard drive

Pretty sure you would have to format the drive... sorry, bud. 
Hard drives are REAL cheap right now, tho! Just go get another one. If its a laptop, just get a external drive. They are tiny these days, so it's real easy to take with ya.

you need a program called partition magic. It will take away the 20 gig partition and make whole drive into one.

Chub, an older program called Partition Magic. Allows you to change partition sizes on the fly... If you have any room left on the 40 gig side you can use the program to shrink the 40 to say 30. Then after a reboot you can then add the 10gb to the 20.... I have a copy and can burn you a CD... I can mail it to you no problem...

The Old Partition Magic went away when Symantec bought out Power Quest about 3 or 4 years ago... There is a Symantec version but I am not crazy about it...

Yes the guys are right Partition magic, is one but there are tons out there. I use Acronis, you can boot from the CD and do it without installing it. PM me I'll see If I can help ya out.
