Anyone removed the cab before?

Im thinking about doing a full wire hide, fuse box and ECU relocation and Im debating the easiest way to do this.

I was going to pull the engine again to gain access and make it easier, but it appears like it maybe easier to lift the cab and roll the chassis out of the way.

Anyone pulled a cab before? It doesnt look that hard. Steering column, clutch and brake lines, a couple main wire connectors, radiator, heater and A/C lines, and the cab bolts.

Any thoughts? I have a hoist and all the tools, so thats the main thing I guess.

Time is actually the problem, this will more or less be a winter project, but just trying to plan it out now.

probably not...the only wires in the way are to the electronic ignition

Interesting thread...try it...as I recall that is what the factory does...lift the cab after disconnecting everything from the firewall...would love to learn what is required to do it.

I think I will just to say I've done it. I seriously think it would be easier than pulling the engine, not that pulling the engine is that hard either. Ford is doing this on the new diesel trucks when engine work has to be done.

This wont happen until the winter, but the way this year is going that will be here in a blink of the eye.

I will post up pictures and explain my experiences when I do it.

I have pulled a 72 apart as well, a buddy and I did it back in high school. Then had the truck painted and put it all back together. We didn't have a hoist at that time either.

You have already done some rewiring mods under the hood! Can you post up with pics of what you have done and which wires you plan to move?

I have done some but not alot. I wont post any pictures of the current stuff because Im not happy with it.

So far I have eliminated all the factory main power wires. Everything to do with supply power, charging, battery cables, etc. I have moved the battery to the rear and then ran a 2/0 cable from the battery forward to a junction box. Then I have three 4 gauge cables that go to the fuse panel, starter, and alternator, these comes from the junction box (the junction box is a stereo equipment piece that is a fused deal, I just dont know what they are called).

Then I have just cleaned up the factory stuff but putting nicer loom on wires getting rid of the ugly plastic crap, changing wire lengths, things like that.

When Im done I hope to have no wires showing at all, other than the stuff that I cant control like the IAC, TPS, A/C pressure switch, electric fan, etc.

Talk to James, OSO, He did it on his old 06' Ram, he is really good with wiring and all that, and would probably be the one to talk to on this one. I dont think he lifted the cab off, but he hid all the wires.......just shoot him a PM

The factory routinely lifts the cab rather than pull the engine.

I bet if someone were to write a letter to them, they would provide a procedure with all of the steps...

I too hate the wiring in my truck. I would like for everything to go to a single hidden block for easy access and disconnect. But it is a huge job to rewire...maybe some long winter...

This will be a winter project guys, we have short ass summers up here and I wont be doing anything until there is snow on the ground.

James (OSO) just moved the computer inside the wiped cowl. He didn't move the fuse panel. I know he said it was a bit of a pita but it looked good and clean.
