Does anyone know the stall speed of the stock torque converter and where higher stall converters can be bought for the SRT-10.

Yeah.. 1400ish is correct.. I installed a 2300 and I like it alot..

Yea I think that would make just the amount of time for the engine to get into its power band.

Does the one you bought look exactly like the stock unit and have lockup,I still have a warr. till 2010.

Thanks

They all have lockups, thats what the stall speed means.. the TC wont lock up fully until that RPM.

No the stock one is a cheap looking stamped steel basket tpe.

Mine is a all billet steel unit.. it was around 1300 for the custom built one I bought...

The main difference between non billet and billet/furnace blazed is flexing of the internal fins.

A stock converter will have an average of 10% of slippage after the stall lockup speed.. a good billet one will have less than 2-3% after lockup.

Just a note.. you will pay good $$ for a good built TC...

Would a good billet converter help with tranny life?

thats kinda a subjective questions... it all depends on what your plans our with the truck... for a stock truck our trannys are OK.. anything beyond that stock HP.. and life the tranny will be affected....

Things I would do to your tranny...

Apply Lever Change, TC, Kevlar Bands, and Hardened steel clutch packs... thats would be a decent setup..

keep in mind a higher stall is for slicks only....allowing the motor to get into the power to move the big meats...on street tires a 2500 stall just hurts traction

2500 is the stall,it does not mean that the truck will sit there untill 2500 rpm's it means when you stomp it it will lock up at 2500 and go (or spin).

I'm no expert but I owned a 69 chevelle LS6 with a 3500 stall converter and if I drove it normally it would act normal as far as pulling out.

includemeout, hopefully you will never have a disease called peripheral neuropathy which causes your feet and hands to become numb, which makes it fairly difficult to manage a stick.

true but when you have a 2500 you need to roll into the throttle on street tires....stomp on it from a red light and the 'verter flashes up to 2700ish and your tires go up in smoke...

My feet are Numb....... from 3 broken necks, injuries/ disease are a good reason , besides I was asking Mike LOL

Exactly.Don't we all roll into the throttle 99% of the time. It's the option I am looking for because as of now stomping it on good pavement I only spin about 15 feet with stock tires. This is with borla cat back exhaust, stage 2 pcm and K&N drop in.

Sometimes I like to show a little smoke :)

Sorry to ramble but it's race day and that means BEER.
