Sorry, it was a bad joke. I read somewhere that you could move the shifter to the center console

It was a good joke ---no sorry's needed-----but it would be nice to be able to shift manually and be able to control the shift points faster ---like a slap shifter

I know someone did this, I have been searching...looks like we will have to dig deep

ok where is stinker ---we need pics....I would think that better et's could be had by this type of shifter----how about Nowwhat---what type of shifter does he use

I asked for pics years ago, he's still working on them. Stinker is still trying to put a roll of 35mm film in his digital camera

:D

Hahahahahaha---stinkers in a hurry I can see

Serious Question . . .

How are you gonna "out-shift" the PCM?

:)

auto shifters

are you referring to paddle shifting type of set up? the type of paddles on the steering column behind steering wheel. i am interested in a paddle shift kit for my 06 qc auto. Retrotek Speed makes a paddle shift kit called smart shift, wireless setup, if you install before i do, let us know of results, thanks

Roz --please explain your ? in a little more detail ---are you talking about the rev limiter shift points? I do no that when I start off in first gear that the truck launches much harder--and yes it hits the rev limit before I can get the gas pedal to the floor---I have the stock PCM. So wouldn't it be safe to say that this type of shifter would be more accurate ,faster and safer to shift (knowing your shift points that is) than a column shifter? Possibly resulting in better ET's.

Paddle shifters will not work on air bag steering wheels.

Stinker did do a floor shifter in his and posted pictures, but it was a long time ago. I installed a '06 console in mine and have a B & M shifter sitting here in the floor to install but just have not had the time to do it. I do recall that Stinker used column parts from a RC truck to make it look like it was a factory installation.

I hope all that helps...

That would be the ultimate type of shifter ndn01----I'm going to look into it...

I meant why not leave it in D or OD and let the PCM shift itself?

At one point in time, I had an automatic TA. I ran my best times at the strip letting the PCM control the shifting instead of me doing it "manually". It was more fun to bump the shifter each time I felt it needed to shift, but I could never "out-shift" the PCM . . .

Steve ---maybe this one will work---It appears to be a push button ---I wonder....what do you think?

Smart Shift

After spending thousands of dollars upgrading every aspect of your hot rod, muscle car or off-road truck, why settle for an old-fashioned shifter? Now you don’t have to. Smart Shift from RetroTek Speed is the perfect blend of cutting-edge technology and retro style. A push-button control panel allows you to shift virtually any domestic automatic transmission with digital precision. Ugly shifters and hard-to-route cables are a thing of the past.

Based on RetroTek’s unique, award-winning technology, the Smart Shift system consists of three major components: the backlit billet keypad, a cutting-edge main controller, and the compact actuator. The waterproof compact main controller has been tested on every popular domestic automatic transmission, and is also compatible with electronic transmissions like the 4L60E. The back lit custom billet keypad can be mounted anywhere vertically or horizontally, built-in LED lights indicate transmission status, and a simple 13-pin harness allows all seven keys to be remotely mounted (like behind a torque-flight juke-box or flush-mounted in a dash). Coated for moisture resistance, the high quality push button switches are rated at over 1-million cycles.

Finally, the custom actuator was designed by RetroTek to work with over 20 domestic transmissions. The actuator is extremely durable, and shifts are perfectly timed and in-sync with the Trans. All mounting hardware is included, and a simple pan-rail design allows for two-bolt installation. The compact Smart Shift system is also compatible with the heavy-duty gear boxes and transfer cases found in off-road racing and rock-crawling, and Smart Shifts have been installed in several pre-runner and trophy endurance race trucks.

The result: a slick push-button electronic shifter that installs in minutes, shifts instantly, allows endless installation possibilities, and is durable enough to withstand the rigors of racing.
