Awesome Pics of Katrina from Mississippi

The last pic in this set is believed to be the inital tidal surge of 35 to 40 feet tall that completely wiped out the Mississippi Gulf Coast from Biloxi to Waveland. It was taken from the third floor of the Saint Stanislaus college in Bay St. Louis. Every structure was 99% destroyed for a width of 9 miles and 1 mile inland.

As someone who has an infatuation with and knowledge of weather, I can tell you that almost all of those pictures are of a mesocyclonic thunderstorm, and not pictures of a hurricane coming in.

These are some pics shot from Mississippi as she came in.

THOSE ARE NOT PICTURES FROM KATRINA!! Those are supercell thunderstorms often seen on the great plains. I'm a meteorologist and those pictures have been floating around the internet way before Katrina.

Here's some pics of the aftermath that are for real. Bay St. Louis and New Orleans. I did some work there after the storm and took these pics.

My favorite is the Rolls Royce parked in front of the FEMA trailer (where a home used to be).

I don't know. The pic was taken in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. I think Mississippi only requires a rear plate. So that one is probably just for looks.:dontknow:

Yea we have just a rear plate in MS. Those pics were sent to me via email and said they were taken in Magee,Ms. as Katrina came in.I know I live 150 miles North of the devastation and we had 100 mph winds here. If they are not of Katrina I apologize, maybe they are severe weather as a result of the hurricane, either way it was pure hell in Mississippi!

Thanks for helping us southern folks out. All most people heard was idiot Choclate Nagan talking about how bad the welfare city of New Orleans was damaged. Our governor Haley Barbor didn't whine or complain he did what was necessary and we as Mississippians pulled together with food and monetary donations and helped each other and didn't look for that government handout. I am sure anyone who went to Waveland and Bay St.Louis can tell you the damage was not just in New Orleans. Most of those two cities were completely destroyed.

Bay St. Louis was ALOT worse than New Orleans. Most of the homes in Bay St. Louis were GONE. Nothing but the foundations left.

In New Orleans they were FLOODED with some wind damaged, but mostly still standing. Big difference, IMHO. And you are right. Mississippi did a much better job of taking care of their own.

Nice pics....some of the best I have seen.....sad the destruction it caused.
