Guys,

Long time listener, first time caller here....

Two weeks ago, I installed the B&M shifter and I think I'm having some problems. When I'm in third gear and accelerating, the shifter rattles a bunch. I've tightened the shifter handle as much as humanly possible. I'd be willing to guess that the Hulk and Superman couldn't tighten it more than I've got it. At first, I though it was the shift ball, but the rattling still happens even when I take the knob off.

Anyway, when in third gear, the shifter rattles while accelerating. It also happens in fourth gear, to a lesser extent.

Has anyone experienced this problem? I'm starting to think I've got a lemon on my hands. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.

Test'N'Tune starts February 17th here in Memphis, and I'd like to be able to whup those L's without any further delay!

Any performance aftermarket shifter is most likely going to rattle. My B+M has a mild rattle to it when accelerating while lugging the motor (1500RPM or so, like 6th gear up a hill), but is reasonably quiet for the most part. It has some transmission whine to it, and has a little rattle here and there, but it shouldnt be overwhelming or be hard to make it disappear with the radio at a moderate volume.

Are you talking a rattle noise or the actual shifter handle is excessively shaking? If its just noise....well then its just aftermarket lovin. They all make some noise.....its a tradeoff....little noise for more performance.

Nature of the beast. It is resonating harmonics of the transmission in the handle. It isn't really the handle itself. You can dampen the harmonics some by wrapping the lower handle (under the leather cover) with some rubber material. I used some stuff that you might wrap a tennis racket handle with. It's stretchy and sticks to itself. You can find it in Walmart either in sporting goods or where they sell tape. Hitting 3rd is a good thing.:D

It's the nature of the beast, my man. Mine is a screamer. I had X-Metal Gen IV and it screamed. Now I have the B&M and while it's not as bad...it still makes some noise. Gonna have to live with it or go back to stock.

also with what Silversrt said , take some rubber like inner tube material and put it between the handle and base.

which do u means by screamed? in good or bad way? x-metal gen IV make sound worst terrible? is that what u means?

:dontknow: Either my stock shifter made more noise than it was supposed too,or my b&m is really quiet because I really don't notice any difference at all.

I think I just have a noisey truck, lol. With the Gen IV I could hear tranny gear noise resonating thru it. But make no mistake, it shifted like money. You can't get better shifting. Definitely an all out race shifter. The noise just wasn't for me.

The B&M makes noise too. That's why I think it's just my truck. It makes a rattling noise at certain rpms. Shifts better than stock but not as positively as the Gen IV.

If you are on the fence about the noise I would suggest going for a ride in a truck with each shifter installed.

2 cents.

ahh, thats means every shifter always make noise and it is just normal? mine is still stock and it doesnt make any noise so far, i am planning to get x-metal gen iv i will see how it doing and see whats up if i want try B&M

The stock shifter doesn't make noise due to the isolator between the shifter handle and the shifter base. That is also part of the reason why it shifts so badly (form a performance aspect). The B&M is said to be quiter than the X-Metal Gen4,but also, less precise. There are trade-offs to everything.I have an X-Metal Gen 4 and love it.The more I use it,the better it gets.I have put some rubber around the junction of the base and shifter handle it is very quiet. The only time I ever notice it making any noise is when i am lugging the engine in 5th or 6th.If you have ever missed 3rd(with the stocker),you will love the Gen 4 !
