Ok. So the day started off really good, I come home for lunch, and laptop is fine... so I head back to work, and when I get home tonight, its sitting at a black screen... thinking.. gee.. damn Windoze locked up again.. but then I notice I very uncomforting whirring/clicking from the hard drive, and the machine is really hot.

Thank god that I recently made a back up of the system, so I only lost about the last months or so of data.

And would you not guess it.. its out of warranty by about 30 days!!!

So now I am off in the 10 to Best Buy to spend some money that I was not planning on doing today....

But it is 3 years old... and I guess its times for a new one....:dontknow:

If ya want to mail it to me I can see what I can do for ya...

I wont charge you anything to try :)

Pm me if ya want

I am going to take it into work Friday, and hook it up to my forensic machine and see if I can run Encase against it and grab data that might still be around on it.

I went over the Best Buy tonight and got a Gateway with Turion ML-34 processors, 1GB Ram, 80 HDD, 15.4" Bright Display, CDR, DVD R/W, for $734.00 including tax.

I will probably pick up a small HDD for it, and put it ebay, its nice little laptop, and has served me well, 2.2ghz P4, 512MB, DVDROM, probably sell for around $200.00 or so.

Ouch!!! I was refering to the news report last week about batteries heating up and catching fire.

How's the new one feel? I imagine the speed kicks ass over the two year old one?

Oh yeah.. much faster. :) Even the new one was the lower ended model, but I figured its a laptop.. I do most my power computing on my desktop.

Yeah.. I heard about that problem, its specific to a model of battery made by Sony, and has been recalled by Dell about 1.5 months ago.
