Bad Gas Question

Anybody ever get a load of bad gas? I think I did. Filled up with supossed 93 octane from a Citgo. Truck was just above E. Shortly thereafter a mile or two, with a tune on the truck for 93 started to ping under heavy acceleration. Reflashed it back to stock and did not notice the ping. Put a tune on from DC performance to see if the tune was the culprit, still pinged but not as bad. Bought a bottle of octane booster and put that in. Seems to be ok.

After the lengthy explanation above. What do you guys think? Bad gas?

Sounds like you got some 87 in the truck...Don't use that station anymore, bastards

most all gastations have an overflow of 87 into the 91/93 tanks. if the tanker truck brings 500 gallons of gas but only 400 will fill the 87 tank the 100 gallons will overflow into the 91/93 tank. its a bad deal for thous of us that rely on the 91/93 but you can get your some gas additive and you should be good to go. i agree it sounds like you got mostly 87 in your truck.

The tanker was actually filling the tanks at the time. Wonder if that had anything to do with it.

I did get some additive, NOS Octane booster, and it seems better now. Just pisses me off. Especially how these motors don't like to lean out and go boom.

No more Citgo.

I was always told when you see a tanker filling the station DON'T.. DON'T buy gas there at that time. These places pump water into the underground tanks when they are low since the fuel is less dense and floats on top. You could get a hefty dose of water in your gas tank that way and a tanker truck is a sure sign that fuel supplies there are low. Chevron, Mobile and Exxon should be great alternatives for Citgo. But Shell is on the top of the list for fuel you should use.

We have Texaco (partnered with Chevron) Exxon/Mobile, Shell, and crappy places like Citgo, Diamond Shamrock, Philips 76 and Stop 'n Rob. Do we use Esso at all in the states? Or is that just in other countries?

Happens to me all the time . With my Ford truck. I brought it to the dealer and they changed everyting they could and could not solve the problem. Finally a can of dry gas did the trick!

The wheels turned, and the headlights and tail lights illuminated onto my pearly white smile. I looked up to HESS, planned on buying gas from there someday; perhaps even own some stock in the company. We always had the little orange ball w/ the "76" logo on my Mom's car's antenna. ....... After old-man Pede died, we never went to the station again (it was torn down shortly after). I have no idea what their gas is like now. :dontknow:

The little orange 76 ball and the Jack-in-the-Box antenna ball..? Pretty much the same crap.. Philip's 76 is the Jack-in-the-Box of gas. :hmmmm:I wonder if Mr. Pede would have made a difference or got out the 76 game in time..

Anyone else remember Sinclair? We had one as a local service station....yes service station. They'd come out and pump the gas for you....and check your oil and air and clean your windshield. Now I'm showing my age.

Yeah I remember it,thats what I did at my Dads station all of 12 years old,pumped the gas cleaned the windshield,checked the oil,fond memorys.:rock: :rock: :rock: :rock:
