This may not mean much to anyone but me. But since I'm not exclusively altruistic, I must (on occasion) ask a technical question that (perhaps may) satisfy only me....

I read posts from time to time that pertain to what people are calling "baffles". Considering the fact that misspelling is ubiquitous in the world today, I only presumed that these folks were talking about baffolds..... Various chambers that appear in devices such as mufflers and other sound deadening apparatus(es)....

But when I Googled the word "baffold", I received a correction message that read "do you mean 'scaffold'.....? "...as if to say that there's no such word as "baffold" anymore.....

Needless to say, I felt a bit shaky about this..... like, if I went into the crapper and sat down, that Rod (bloody) Serling was gonna pop out'a my toilet bowl and say, "That's the sign post just up ahead.... You've just crossed over...into... The Twilight Zone..."

Has everyone freaked out and carelessly misplaced the word "baffold".....? Have we run out of baffolds and simply decided not to make any more? Or has the entire world gone ape shit and decided that, "Well, these fkn morons have been misspelling "baffold" for so many years that we might as well give in to it.... Henceforth, the proper spelling will be "baffle"......

I even went to an unabridged effing dictionary (which is rarely fkn neccesary) and the word "baffold" did NOT appear there..... But when I perused further on Google I did find occasion where the word "baffold" could be found when used in reference to mufflers.......

Will some technically minded person please unwind this mystery for me, before you find me in some remote corner babbling like Adrian Monk on bad acid.....?

Thanks...

Check in the unabridged Castillian/Spanish dictionary - I think you will find it under "glass packs" man (aka cherry bombs and other references found in Cheech and Chong's movies) and by the way would you like to buy a 14 dollar diamond studded watch??? ;) ;) :dancing: ..... :dontknow: :D :star:

I'm befuddled.

By the way, not sure I like the reference to "...ape shit...";) :D :p

It was a subliminal message begging your specific input.....

I thought that, if anyone could solve the mystery It'd be you..........

BTW, "baffold" is not an archaic or Elizabethan form of English.... as in "thou shouldst go f**k thyself"...... And, since I can't use the F word here any way... I'll simply euphemize my pejorative and simply say, "My admonition to you all is one of self-same sexual penetration".......

This is one baffling son of a bitch, right here.....:(

I'm assuming that this is caused by my thread.

First off, I shall only use the term "air direction modifiers" from this point on to describe the devices that I have had questions about.

Secondly, I congratulate you on a fine way of describing to crude phrase referenced above. Nice work!

Actually, I had been under the impression that you'd misspelled the word.... and I went looking for it.... As previously stated, I couldn't bloody find "baffold"... I knew I hadn't made the damned thing up... I'd seen it hundreds of times as a kid... Particularly within discussions about mufflers... But I couldn't find the wretched word anywhere....

Considering the American penchant for ruining the language by legitimizing such redundancies as "irregardless", I thought perhaps Webster's had flipped out again.... and I still think that's the case....

But hell, don't change on my account, if the lexicon sez it's "baffle"... well, hooda flock am I to quibble.... I won't ever spell it that way, but I'm a bit inflexible when it comes to language 'n' shit.

Fianlly, thanks for the props on the F U-phemism...... It is one of my personal faves.... I even used it in church once...
