As I was coming to work this morning, talk radio continues to discuss the prospect of Bonds breaking Hank Aaron's home run record. Unfortunately, my opinion of Bonds has been tainted by the media, and what appears to be an overwhelming sense of arrogance. Consequently, I would like to see Hank's record stand.

However, in all fairness, and since we are fortunate enough on this site to have a good diversity of age groups, can any of the older members comment on public opinion of Hank during his time as a ML player? Is it possible that I am unfairly holding Bond's to a higher standard?

I could care less about baseball :dontknow:

Although I do have an opinion :D

Hank Aaron had to deal with extreme prejudice throughout his career with the fans as well within baseball. He received death threats against him and his family when he broke Ruth's record. I would guess he is among a short list of the first modern day black athletes that was idolized by the general public. He helped turn the corner in a lot homes to ignore racial stereotyping and prejudice.

Barry Bonds is a just a talented asshole who couldn't stand to see his skills diminish.....So, decided to prolong his career through medicine. If he wasn't such a prick, more people would let him slide considering the evolution of steroids and growth hormones in modern day sports.

Hank Aaron conducted himself with dignity and class, something Barry Bonds knows nothing about.

Bill.

Barry Bonds and those like him are exactly the reason I hate Baseball.........

I would not like my son to act like him....... nor Vick. The league needed to do something prior to now. They have evolved as they have been allowed.

I personally don't want to see Bonds break the record because I believe he did steroids and he seems to be an arrogant prick (from what I have heard in the media):dontknow: . He admitted steroid use in his GJ testimony (which should not have been leaked) and some of his closest acquaintences have stated that he took them. So I am basing my opinion on that, however flawed it might be.

However, I will watch when he breaks the record. If for no other reason, that I don't want to miss history being made.

Having said all that, Barry's record probably won't stand for very long anyway. A-Rod is sitting on 499 and he should still be around for another 10-15 years if he can stay healthy.:dontknow:

AND Basketball

AND Football (Well, I still kinda like Football:D )

Every sport has the arrogant players which are really annoying. Hell, Philly had Terrel Owens on the Eagles and Allen Iverson on the 76'ers. Both great players, but thankfully, both gone. I've never heard of these two players using illegal drugs as Bond's is accused of doing, but the attitudes all seem to be similar.

Either way, I think Baseball is one boring-ass sport, so I could really care less about Bonds. I have no use for Basketball anymore either.

I'll watch a Football game occasionally on TV, but that's it. They'll never see me at the stadium and get my money.:p

Yeah i think i would mind it a lot less if A-Rod broke the record... at least he did it on all skill. He's a bit off in some of the way he does things, but it's nothing a person can't accept.

Its not if he did roids its a fact. He put on like 30 lbs in a very very short amount of time. His body mass grew, i saw pictures of him in a tank.
He has the tell tell signs, bad back acne, squared shoulders, gigantic melon etc.
He hit more homers later in his career then when he was younger, 98% of major leaguers dont do this.
Final piece is his trainer wouldnt be sitting in jail refusing to speak if there was nothing to hide.

Hank Aaron was a skinny guy would had tons of skillz. F Bloated Bonds

Most of the negativity towards Bonds is generated by personal issues.

"I don't like Barry Bonds because he "______________". Fill in your own gripes...

When Mark Mc Guire broke the single season record a few yrs back, there wasn't nearly the kinda of animous directed at him as Barry is getting. And MM used performance juice too.

OK, so there's not alot that's ostensibly likeable (to me) about Barry Bonds either. But hell, I'm a Dodgers fan since way before BB was born anyway.... so, go figure...

But if yer gonna exponge Bonds' record for performance enhancing drugs, everyone else who used or uses juice should be made to answer too. McGuire, Canseco, Bonds, probably even older guys like George Brett.... He didn't look normal, either.... square jawed MFr.... Maybe even Ricky Henderson... guys whom I happen to like....

And while I'm running my fingers:

RESTORE PETE ROSE AND HIS STATS TO BASEBALL.... He should be in Cooperstown.

Let's see............Uh...........Bud Selig Selig is a childish putz..... and a whole lotta other shit, too.

Oh yeah..... and we saw to it that BB didn't besmirch Dodger blue by breaking Hank's record in our house.....

GTF out'a here......SF Giant MFrz.

I agree Tim, Pete Rose should be in the hall of fame!

Bill.

From Wikipedia............

Peter Edward "Pete" Rose, Sr. (born April 14, 1941, in Cincinnati, Ohio), nicknamed Charlie Hustle, is a former player and manager in Major League Baseball. Rose played from 1963 to 1986, best known for his many years with the Cincinnati Reds. Rose, a switch hitter, is the all-time major-league leader in hits (4,256), games played (3,562), at bats (14,053), and outs (10,328). He won three World Series rings, three batting titles, one Most Valuable Player Award, two Gold Gloves, the Rookie of the Year Award, and made 17 All-Star appearances at an unequaled five different positions (2B, LF, RF, 3B, and 1B). Rose's nickname, Charlie Hustle, was given to him for his play beyond the "call of duty" while on the field. Even when being walked, Rose would run to first base, instead of the traditional walk to base. Rose was also known for sliding headfirst into a base, his signature move.

Just based on hits, he should be in the Hall.

I agree, betting is different I can see if he sucked and bet but there's no telling how well you can do on a given day.
Let the man gamble.

F Barry Bonds helmet head mofo

Well, my question of holding BB to a higher standard has been answered.

I think Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds and the rest of the kings of baseball should have fessed up to the fans when they had the chance. What I thought was wrong was a bunch of old fat ass congressman spending mine and your tax dollars investigating baseball:confused: .
