Best brake upgrade?

Got the truck out and ran it hard for a good 200 miles the other day, at the end of the run at slow speeds I am getting chatter in the pedal. Will go and get it looked at on Tuesday but it felt like one of the rotors is getting warped, but if that is the case wouldn't it do it at all speeds?

If the rotors need replacing what is the best out there to get? The Stoptechs I can't find for under $2K (I run Stoptech 6 pistons on both the Viper and love them). Can't seem to find a full replacement kit or even SS brake lines!

The EBC are HEAVY and on the Vipers there was zero improvment... How are the Powerslot Cryo rotors any good? DBA dosen't even make a set for this truck!

After rotors, what pads do you all suggest for hard street driving? EBC Yellows?:dontknow:
 
Thanks to JTSVP I am changeing all brake lines to SS, new oil lines, new power steering lines, new coils, etc...

Went with Cryo Power Slot rotors and Yellow EBC pads... will give it a shot. Figure what the hell, if I don't like it I'll put on the $$$ Stoptech rotors and Hawk pads...

I like them almost no dust at all compared stock.
 
I'm running centric powerslots front and rear on my qc with posi quiet pads. I love them. No brake noise at all and there's barely any brake dust off these babies. They're the only ones I recommend... They are kinda heavy though I think it's 35# front and 25# rear but I don't care... Plus they look sweet :D
 
Not too concerned with dust. That is why I went with EBC Yellow. Concerned with the best COLD and HOT pad performance. Will see if they eat through the rotors or not. Takes forever to get the cryo rotors it seems like, but as soon as I get them I will try and post pics and weight differences.

In the meantime still working out brake pulsation on another thread.
 
I have a question on pads. I went around to a few places to get a few opinions. The Dodge dealer swears on the factory pads and they have changed since 05. And they want $250 for those and $150 to turn the rotors and to install.( the fronts)

I went to Brakes Plus just to get an opinion from them too. Never done business there and don't know if i will but I just want know if their stuff is a deal or just cheap crap. They quoted $170 to do new Akebono ceramic pads and to turn the rotors. Fronts on those too.

So what direction is a good way to go. I mean anywhere i go, people are going to tell me that what they have is the best. Brakes Plus is insanely cheap. When most things are too good to be true, most of the time they are. RIGHT?

I am seeing other things posted on this forum of course. The biggest thing is, I dont want to give up performance but i want less dust. Brakes Plus said that I would get same if not better performance and less to no dust. Parts and labor for less then just pads. Hmmm? Just doesnt add up.

My 05 QC has 18,000 miles and the brakes are squeekin bad. I want it fixed. My guess is its just pads. I dont want to dump the money into rotors when I am sure they are good still.

Hope that all makes sense.
 
question is , how much is your or your families friends life worth?

dotn cheap out on the brake system, they are cheap pads out there and they are cheap for a reason
 
I hear you on that but am I paying for a name on some of these pads? What would I be paying for in a pad that is 2-4x the money. If you have a good link to go to, that would work too. I don't mind reading into some of these things. I just need a good reliable source. And I like to know what i am paying for, beyond the name.
 
I went through my factory pads by 20K miles. Turned the rotors and picked up some green EBC. Big improvement regarding dust. Seemed to stop just fine but did get some squeal on occasion. At 30K my rotor's were shot. I went with Zeckhausen rotors and their Centrix pads. 70K miles later I'm still on those pads and rotors....haven't done a thing with them. Initial bite is softer but add a bit of pressure to the pedal and seems to clamp down just like the factory pads. Very pleased....

Pads were about $70 and if you pull your rotors yourself (very easy) it should only cost you $20-30 to have them turned.
 
i've turned my rotors on the front 3 times....they're done;) twice on the rear...

i'm getting powerslot fronts and ebc yellow up front and i've got a new set of oem rear rotors and greens to go on...

we'll see how they do...

Ceramic pads will heat fade bad. I put some on my 'vette and during high speed driving, they have faded all the way to completely not working at all. They wouldn't even stop the car from a 10 mph roll. I had to roll to a stop
 
I will upgrade soon to ebc pads cause I hear they are good, rotors I am unsure as of now.


I have 53xxx on my factory brakes so far. but they are alomst gone.

my last suv was 60xxx and still factory brakes never touched.
 
I went with the Full EBC setup from Tony, EBC Dimpled and Slotted Rotors and EBC Green Pads Front and Rear. They are Great and Low Dust... :)
 
I have heard of the ebcs, thanks alot for the advise. You guys really help. I think I will go that direction. If anyone recommends a color let me know. If not don't worry about it. I can look in to that part on my own.

Is it worth shopping for those off ebay or do we have a decent hook up on those pads? What should I expect to pay for what color? Price range is fine.

Many of us would direct you to the Vendor's list here on VTCOA. just saying...we try and take care of our own.
