i was gonna wash my truck today but upon getting all the stuff ready i looked closely and saw that my truck has been misted with tree sap prolly from when i parked at the mall.

needless to say i did feel like washing it anymore as i knew it would be a long wash.,

Should i just claybar the whole truck or is there something else i can do?

without scratchin the paint

Turtle Wax makes a product that removes bug, tar, and tree sap that is very good.

What ever you use you will need to re-wax afterward. The Goof Off is great stuff but possibly more harsh than you need.

Dawn dish washing liquid removes all wax and would probably cut the sap with no problem.

Try the dawn first...then re-wax.

Yup, bug and tar remover spray. Been using it and does ok

WD-40 works great too and I'll bet you already have some.

Yes. :)

Wash with Dawn, claybar entire truck, then re-wax entire truck.

If the sap is fresh and you have a good coat of wax on the truck then the sap should wash right off....of the sap has been there a long time do what Jimi said except I always re-wash after claybar......Dawn, claybar, Dawn, wax......

alright i went ahead and washed the front hood down with dawn soap and seems like it did get some of it off or lessened it.

I went ahead and started clybar and it didnt seem to want to move the specs of sap off. I thru a coat of wax on it rubbing pretty good and its stays put. I guess i might try some wd on it next or just go buy some straight paint remover:argh:

I'm thinking of taking a buffer to it, i got a dewalt waiting to be plugged in but i would like to get a new pad on it

well here are some pics, you can kind of see the specs in the paint which cover the top side of the truck

If the sap has pentrated thru the clear coat nothing short of repainting will help. It is important to not let sap, bugs, etc stay on the paint to long..acids contained in them will eat right thru...sorry...:(

i hope not:(

the sap has been on it for like a week. after the mall the truck went in the garage and has been there since.

I'm not sure that it works on tree sap. But this stuff works great on adhesives, those dumbass stickers that factories put on sportbikes... I've use it many times and it's always been very kind to the clearcoat.....

I'm talking about Go-jo.....

alright i give up. I threw everything i had it and nothing really worked..

it looks like clear maybe etched so i'm taking it to the body shop for expert wet sand.

i got some off of my pops truck the other day with PB Blaster, worked like a charm.

. . . . I'd try mineral spirits before I took it to the bodyshop. ;)

+1

WD-40 will remove chewing gum, tar, and most bugs. It really does work well and doesn't seem to harm the paint. Then, just wash will soap and water and re-wax.

well folks the stuff i used did get the sap off, you cant even feel the little bumps or anything, But the trucks looks like it has a bunch mini water spots
