If you really want to go with a ski-boat type boat definitely stay with the V-drive. Honestly though unless you get one that has built in ballast tanks you'd be better off with some of the normal I/O's and put a tower on it. We've had two Mastercrafts and they were both great. I've ridden behind almost everything else at one point or another. I really like Malibu's a lot as well.
Honestly though the "wakeboard" boats are pricey compared to most others out there. If you're really good they're worth it. Example, I used to be able to throw flips and fly out into the flats, can't anymore. So for me I'd rather have a nice bowrider and put a tower on it. I now have a Cobalt and you couldn't get me back into a ski boat of any make. Big wake w/o screwing with ballast tanks, bigger and more comfortable, smoother ride, better on gas.
