Experienced Bikers out there.

I was out riding solo today and mid way through the ride I'm coming down an off ramp and find myself merging into a group of bikers. I say to myself "What have I gotten myself into"? I didn't see any colors so I figure It's not a gang. Everyone was riding a Harley but I have a Buell (close enough ??). I'll only be on this road a short distance so I hold position and figure we'll part ways at my next turn.

Well the whole group makes the turn. I'm about sixth of a group of 30. So I end up riding in this group for some 20 miles. I finally made my break when they went right and I went left in a little town. After I made the turn, I looked back and waved thanking them for the escort.

What is proper bike etiquette in a situation like this. Should I have pulled over and let the group pass and fall in behind? Is what I did just fine? I just didn't know what to do so I went with the flow. Just don't want to get shot in the back next time. TIA

I would think in this time and day you did fine:D

Personally I would take a look at the bike next to me and give him the thumbs up, even if it was a clunker:p , kinda get more aceptance that way.

Now if it had been a club it would have been very bad etiquitte indeed, and I'm sure you would have known that by now. The biggest reason is that there is security to think about, no telling who is on that bike getting on next to you, you know?

I myself most likely would have either waited til the end of the pack or tried to shoot through and get up front and gone. Of course it also depends on how close the pack is, we usually run asshole to elbow hehehe.

Doesn't sound like they minded though, which is really the only thing that matters I guess.

Yeah, they seemed to be a pretty cool bunch. Every time another group or solo biker was going in the other direction, they all would give the hi sign (pointing down to the ground at an angle).

I never actually got beside anyone. We were riding staggered formation. I wish they would have stopped somewhere. I'd of liked to talk to them and find out what group they belong to. The group I was suppose to meet with today was a no show.:dontknow:

If they are riding slow :slug:, we usually pass a group.... :driver:

Most of the time it goes over well but some don't take it well... :dontknow: :D

I think you did fine.I tend to either blow past them or fall to the rear. Most bikers are good people and will ride with anyone. The parade thing is NOT for me.Too damn slow!

IMO I would have stopped and let the group pass. Sometimes "packs" of riders take offense to uninvited riders.

Sounds like you did fine by blending in and then just exiting when you did.

Hey you may have been in the Ford Lovers of America Ghey parade..... Not that anythings wrong with that.... F.L.A.G. parades are becoming more and more popular... :dancing: so I hear. :D

A couple years ago when I had my R1 still I came up on a group of Harley Riders heading to Sturgis and I couldn't get past them so I just hung out behind them and they all pulled in the same gas station. They were actually cool about me riding with them since I'm a local and I made some nice comments about their bikes.

Possible but I don't think so. A couple of the bikes had "Biker Babe's" on the back. Unless they were guys in drag.:puke:

I think you did fine, in our area there arnt too many hard core gangs:D well accept for the 8/5GRU(8 to 5 geeks r us):p

Most of the time I found that as long as ya give the props on their bikes , it kinda eases the tension.

I was running up to deals gap one time, ran up on a kinda hardcore group, and instead of jsut blasting by, I slowly road thru the group, taking long hard looks at their bikes an giving them thumbs up:rock: they ended up asking for a wheelie:D even met up with them at the Gap, some were kinda hating the ricers, but others really got a kick of us grindin knees in the turns, even sat in a few cheering us on.
Ended up getting a little drunk that night with some of them and there uhum ladies, taking off a few tops:marchmellow:

Its all about RESPECT bo, give it to them, they usually give it back
