birthday help

since this is the best knowledge base on earth, guys i need help finding the right digital camera for my wife's birthday present. i know nothing about these things other than point and shoot. i only have two criteria. 1 it needs to quickly take the picture upon pushing the button (the one we have now is so slow we miss out on a alot good photos) 2 it needs to take very good quality pics. max price would probably around $300 so that kinda of limits things. open to all suggestions and experiences. thanks guys

I bought my wife a Nikon D60. It was a little over $500 but great quality photos! I love it. Here are some examples of the quality. We have been really pleased with the camera.

thanks for the suggestion/link. and some good looking kiddo's you got. i gotta find a camera quick with her birthday on the 8th, mother's day on the 10th, and a scheduled c-section on the 25th, we are going to be taking lots of pics this month. keep em coming guys
