Yes, we had a near deadly accident. Unbelievable how small coincidences can lead to such danger.
2 of my employees had to install some aluminium plating in a HT cabine .( 15 kvolts ) We were asked to do it while the cabine was under construction , so no current on it. Arrived at the factory my men got inaware the key for the cabine from the wrong person !!! as the one in charge was away for 1 hour .... They started the job and finally worked around a open locker were my man was electrocuted by 15.000 volts trough his arm. Now it is clear that the electric company did put the cabine alive the day before for some testing but not sealed the locker with a padlock as all the others because they were to big for the holes availeble in the hinges.... They were to come back with the right ones.... but left the current on....
My man is now i hospital with burning wounds on his arm from 2 to 3 degree.
He will need some skin transplants on the most affected places.
How small misunderstandings can lead to fatal errors.... According the electric company he had the luck to survive that as 1 to 10....
Been already 2 days busy with insurance people...

Wow....that is teribble, I have to deal with electricity too..

At least with Plumbing you can see the water coming at you.

Thoughts and prayers to him...

Thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

I think the power company is right. He's lucky to be alive.

Sorry to hear that Barry, prayers and thoughts his way.

Sorry to hear that bad news. God Bless him and his family

You need to go to the hospital, wrap your arms around that man and give him a big hug and cry with him a bit.

Now for why....

My wife worked in the Burn Unit for over two years. Knows exactly what has happened and what it will take. For as little that was burnt on your friend, the angels have indeed blessed him. He will go through a wide range of emotions to the point where at times it might seem a little out of place. Be there, encourage him, believe in his will to get better. Look at the good, never the bad.

The worse thing that can happen is for even a small amount of doubt. Infection is the worst enemy and lack of will is the second.

With as little of an injury area as there is, don't take it for granted. I have met young men with similar injuries that lost there arm all the way up to there shoulder blade.

Don't take this post wrong. I am very concerned and pray for his complete recovery. It sounds as if there is a very good possibility of a comple recovery, which is very good news.

God Bless

He will be in my prayers, not only for the complete recovery of his injuries, but a complete recovery of his heart and mind.

Jeff

Best of Luck to him.....God Bless

I will say a prayer.

this story hits home with me because of my industry. Accidents are awful when they happen especially in my industry. Been on towers people have died on and known guys who have been struck by lightning twice!!! and lived
Its a bad day anything like this happens and brings some light to what people take for granted in life.

My prayers go out to you guys.

Sorry to hear that Barry...

Good luck to him...

He and his family is in our thoughts and prayers....

Barry, accidents like this are always 'one to many'.
I feel for your guy, as mentioned before mental support
is even important as physical recovery.
I hope he walks away fully recovered but it will take time, a long time.

For what it's worth: Good judgement comes from experience. Experiance comes from Bad judgement.

Barry,

Sorry about your friend.

Does your company not have any lockout/Tagout program??

Anytime working around high voltage or heavy machinery these kind of programs can and do save lives.

Hope your friend recovers well!!

I think he was saying that the lockout tags they had were too big for the hinges on the breaker, so they just left the power on.

Sorry to hear about this accident Barry, my best to your man.

Thanx all alot in his name for the warm support ! just got him on the phone for the first time and will be able to visit him shortly tomorrow in the HI-CARE departement.
Hand and whrist are most badly burnend and will need surgery in the near future. Most important was the fact that he seemed to me positive in his talking. So i know him , he's a tough guy and will fight this over with a positive thinking which is as stated a must to start .... Let's hope his recovery go's well and thank God or whatever we believe in that it hasn't been worse.
This remember us how smal we are in this world and how we used to be concerned about daily non-important issues . A few litle mistakes on a row can end this all within secondes.

Our daily conversations and chitchat are far more important then our trucks , no ? That 5000 lbs of metal is just a help to create a bunch of friends and that's nice !
