Blagojevich impeachment:

My position on this whole thing is that his guy is dirty and as crooked as a roach leg. However, I believe those within his political circle are just as dirty, but weren’t caught. Since he was the one caught engaged in something questionable HE was in the spotlight… A politicians’ tactic to place all focus on one person like a sacrifice to hide their own wrong doings… As if upstanding integrity is really a common virtue amongst the lot. Be that as it may, Blago didn’t play his cards right. Let's face it, if he was so innocent of the allegations against him then he should have attended his impeachment hearings all this week to show he is serious in getting this matter resolved the correct way. What if any of us just decided not to show up at a hearing aimed at something we’ve done? We’d be in contempt and possibly more charges would be filed. Is he above the processes? Above the law? If that's what he believed then it's a display of utter arrogance.

Besides, this wasn’t a criminal court hearing he was to attend, so why the need for defense? He as a governor should have known that his chance for a proper defense will be during the up and coming criminal trial.. But to just not show up and try to take his story to be broadcasted on the primetime airwaves was stupid. It didn’t help his case whatsoever. It only displayed his defiance and lack of respect for the system. The same system that’s so used to failing regular citizens everyday. I bet he doesn’t like being a victim of the system like so many others. If you ask me, he didn’t have anything significantly incriminating on any of the 59 who voted him out. Otherwise he would have gotten votes to keep him in. But who knows? He might eventually start spilling the beans on others that no one is aware of yet.

As a relatively new Illinois resident my view is no clearer than anyone else.

But this is what is being said:

1. He is very smooth.
2. He is totally centered on making every decision based on how much it will enrich him personally.
3. Impeachment is not a legal trial. It is an administrative procedure that is dictated by the rules that exist within the body that does the impeaching.
4. The four tapes that were used were very clear evidence of his intent and purpose.
5. The two votes in the Senate were 100% against him, not one decenter in the Senate.
6. He could have presented a defense, he was allowed to present witnesses, just not the ones he wanted, they could not be compelled to testify (this is not a legal trial, it does not have the power to compel testimony), and the Governor knew that.

The purchase of drugs is an old issue, but it violated state and federal laws.

The one point that did not arise, and I wonder why...is that there is a probably federal indictment pending and anticipated on almost all of the articles of impeachment...I would have objected to the process based on the pending federal action, saying that I could not possibly testify due to the federal investigation which could carry huge penalties and anything that was said might compromise the defense of that possible indictment.

I think I would have said...do what you will. If you remove me from office, and I am subsequently vindicated, I will own all of you personally for the rest of your lives!

By the way he still retains his retirement for life...
