Blown A/C line??

Driving home from work today and hit one of the many bumps that rattle these trucks and heard a loud pop and hiss with white smoke from under the hood. At first I thought I blew a tire but when I checked the AC line had popped off the tank on the pass side and blew freon and oil all over everythingcleaned it all up nicely and noticed the plastic coupler that holds the line to the tank was still attached to the tank and the line was just hanging there, I believe it was the high pressure side, so any ideas, I wasn't even using the AC when it happened;

thats the low side at the accumulator/dryer

Thanks, I was not too sure if it was the high or low side. Looking at it again I'm wondering if the coupler was a little loosened and the bump just popped it off but it was still attached to the dryer???????

looks like just an o-ring pressed fit. can you push it back together and see what happens? :dontknow:

I reconnected it and popped the plastic coupler back on. I'm gonna recharge it at my buddies shop one night this week and see what happens, I was just hoping I could figure out why it happened so I don't have it happen again and make another mess, I got lucky it did not hit my freshly dipped valve cover, that would have been a real bad day.......

the flare on the line slides up into a spring lock.

just by the photo the flare might be the prob or maybe the spring lock is toast.

supposed to be a plastic lock that helps hold it together also

Make sure your guy has the right equipment for this. It is going to need to be vacuumed down before it gets recharged.

Kind of ghetto, but you can take some fishing line to secure it in the meantime.

It's all reconnected and the black plastic coupler is snapped back on, and yes Theol55 he has a SnapOn machine that does it all. The line slid back over the 2 orings and the coupler snapped back on to hold them together, wondering if its a bad coupler?? I am also going to replace the orings while I'm at it.

Ordered my new line and coupler from my local dealer $118.00, heck of a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. Also ordered a new lower radiator hose $22.00, just because a friends blew with 1/2 the mileage I have and I'm going to LimeRock in 2 weeks, preventative maint.............
