Has anybody tried one of these or a similar blue tooth device as an alternative to the factory u-connect???....How well do they work???:dontknow: http://letsyada.com/yd-v16.html
I just picked up a Jabra SP715 Bluetooth speaker for my truck. It's not as sophisticated as the Mopar Uconnect system but it doesn't cost nearly as much either. Here's the rundown on the Jabra. It interfaces with your bluetooth capable phone. It downloads the phones contact list and announces by name who is calling over it's speaker. You then just reach up (mounted on sun visor) and tap the leading edge to answer.
It also has an FM transmitter. When you turn it on it scans for an unused FM frequency and tells you verbally which station to tune into. So if you have songs on your phone and use it like an Ipod it will play that music through the Jabra to your in car radio in stereo. When you get a call, it pauses the music, announces the caller, you take the call, when you're done it begins playing music right from where it stopped.
My phone also has a built in FM radio. I'll have to see if that works the same way too. The only drawback that I can see so far is that it needs periodic charging. It has a 14 hour talk time and a standby time of a couple days.
When it doesn't see your phone it will automatically turn itself off to conserve battery. When you get back to your truck just push the answer button and it re-links with your phone. Easy to move from vehicle to vehicle. All in all a pretty ingenious piece of gadgetry. Best of all......$54. (that's not a misprint)
Disclaimer: I do not work for Jabra. This is just an item I purchased and thought I'd pass along as an alternative to the full blown Mopar Uconnect system. Your mileage may vary and in this case batteries are included.
