Ok, here is the short version: x metal mids put on, had to have exhaust guy install due to magnaflow was welded on.

Drive home and notice the rattle (it was not there when I picked up the truck)and after some careful checking the hideous rattle is coming from inside my magnaflow......its either a bolt or some other length of metal rod which rolls and bounces around inside the muffler.

I drove over 140 miles this weekend and the item will not clear the muffler. For you guys whom might know what the inside of the magnaflow looks like.....:dontknow: ......Is my only option to get the exhaust guy to cut the pipes and look inside the muffler or cut all 4 pipes and take the muffler out and shake the sumbitch till the piece falls out? Is it possible to cut open the muffler if we cannot shake it out??? WTF can I do here? I cannot keep driving it like this............its so f#cking annoying!!!

If I cant get the piece out I will buy a new muffler the rattle is so so so BAD!!!:(

Thank you your help here guys.

Patrick,
If the piece is rattling, you should be able to get it out of the muffler without any issue, but you're gonna have to remove it to so so...

You could try a magnet zip-tied to the end of a fish tape. Feed the fish tape 'backwards' into the exhaust.
Be careful not to lose the magnet. :)

Otherwise, I'd suggest removing the exhaust at the nearest bolts and, using gravity, shake the sumbitch out.

(It's like a guitar pick inside an acoustic...an Ovation 'autumn leaf' model, no less. LOL)

Short of removing the Magnaflow...all I got is reducing the end of a shop vac hose...to a 12' - 1" piece of flexible plastic tubing....fishing it up there...then hit the switch:dontknow:

Take it back to the shop and have the ahole fix it. Shit for two hundred dollars that you paid him he still owes you about a hours work.

Maui try the fish tape with a good magnet, it might be worth a try, or go back and b@#$c at the muffler guy for f#$%$%g up you exhaust. If it was me and the muffler guy messed itup, he would fix it!!

There are also magnets on a flexible rod at autozone.

We have a "rare earth magnet", It's about 30 bucks but it a a powerfull sob. If you can find one just use it on the outside of the pipe. You can just wiggle it around till it catches it, the work it to the end. (I replaced the cats on one of these work trucks and some how left a piece of the metal on the inside, doing that it took me 5 mins. and I was done.

Patrick,
I remember when I installed my Magnaflow - I could see right through the muffler. So if all else fails, you should be able to remove the muffler and shake the object out of it.

I like Ken's idea with the ShopVac.
I'd just be afraid of emptying the gas tank while doing that. :D

Possibly, but you're talking about sending a magnet up the tailpipe, over the axle, and into the muffler. That's quite a distance to travel with a magnet, through steel pipes.

It never hurts to try, but IMO you'd be better off just yanking the muffler and getting it done. Yes, it sucks,:dontknow:

Re-phrase:

You'd be better off having the guy who installed the muffler sit back and watch as the manager of the shop that installed it pulls the muffler and shakes out the bolt.

:D

i agreed with kevan! lolol but i would perfer to sit back and watch at a guy who installed the muffler to get the damn thing out of muffler!

I don't think magnets attract to stainless steel. At least it works for checking if heads have stainless or stock valves.
