Brakes seem strange

Maybe it is normal, but does anyone else have brakes that seem to grab, or as some call it are "touchy"? I can just tap my brakes and it is like I am slamming on them. Truck has 9900 miles. Never had a problem with braking like this before, make me look like I can not drive.

The other thing they do is squeak.

I have yet to inspect them, I would find it really hard to believe the pads are worn to replacement.

You mean the brake sensitivity wasn't always like that? Mine have been that way since day 1.

They don't squeak all that bad (just a little), but them sum-bitches sure do grab. The squeaking is a by-product of a race-ready performance brake pad.

I like the brakes to work that way, myself.

I like how one person described the brakes on the 2005 Ram SRT-10:
"These are one of the few brake systems that some will want to swap out the race-ready brake pads for something with LESS grabbing power.".

Yes they are touchy. But, if you need to "touch" em going 60+ mph, you're gonna love em

Dude that's them big ass rotors that the pads are grabbing. Mine have always been that way. I welcome it so that I can get that monster's speed down to zero quickly fast... quickly faaaaast. The squeeling, well it does it at times, but seems to do it when I'm rolling up on a cute honey. *whispers* I think it's jealousssssss.:dontknow:

I've never driven an '05 but the "bad brakes" that the '04s have some of the best stopping power this side of un-drilled rotors. With a Viper V10, I appreciate all the stopping power without the "Bzzzzzzzzz" (but I like that too).

I was thinking the very same thing, but my Viper and one of my friends GEN III Vipers has lots o stopping power without the grab or the squeak.

Must be the combination of the brakes, weight and how the weight is distributed. In my mind if the brakes are "good" and engineered correctly for the car it is stopping then lightly touching the brakes should not make them grab!

As a side note I got my Pace-Edwards Jackrabbit tonneau yesterday. I have the rails modified and hope to have it all assembled tonight, pics to come!

My wife, when she has to drive my truck for some reason always does a face plant on the steering wheel the first time she hits the brakes. She then remembers that they are sensitive, but to her they Grab. To me they are normal as I'm used to them.

If your's are more sensitive than what they were new, you may have a problem that needs to be looked at.

Do not know, I only had the truck 3 weeks..... I will live with it for the summer. I am going to replace the pads this winter with some that throw less dust and maybe slotted rotors, may make a difference.

I have for the most part babied the truck, at least when slowing down. I will take it out tonight and use it a bit and see if there is any pulse when applying the brakes under higher speeds.

For you guys with 04's the best brake option IMHO is Performance Friction Pads. NO dust and NO squeek.

Still stops great but won't throw you thru the windshield anymore. You can get them at autozone for about $40 to $45 per set (front/rear).

I don't think PF makes front pads for either 05 model. I think the rears may be the same on 04/05 but I am not 100% sure.

One way to cure the squeal is to really hammer the brakes from 50+ a couple times. This breaks the glaze that causes the squeal.
