Got the truck out of the garage yesterday afternoon after getting all the crap done around the house. I noticed a slight squeaking coming from the serpentine belt??? I didn't give it much though cause the dealership I purchased the truck from replaced it right before I bought it. Anyway, to make a long story short, I was in second going to third and all hell broke loose.. The belt pretty much was totally gone when I shut her down and for some reason I lost the power steering and was leaking fluid....luckily I was able to coast into a parking lot and shut it down before it got to hot:mad: What a shitty way to spend a Saturday afternoon...Hopefully all is covered under the warranty.. Sorry, had to vent...only have had the truck 3 weeks.

Sorry man, i had the same thing happen to Dakota Quad Cab i had a few years ago...The power steering pump froze up and tossed the belt while going 60-65 MPH.(i had the same noise you described at start up) It made one hell of a mess under the hood when all the fluid came out.

That sux! But, at least it was just the belt.

Power steering is "powered" by the belt, that's why you lost it. The leak is something different. Maybe the belt hit a line or something as it let go. :dontknow:

Hope you get it covered under warranty!

hmm...sounds like maybe your idler or power steering pump(or even the altenator,a/c) may have seized and threw the belt. there have been some folks on here that have had problems with the steering pump.i was going to say if it was an 04' crankshaft bolts on some were finger tight and that led to some harmonic balancers actually coming off.check your belt tensioner/idler pulley, does it spin freely? also if the pulleys are out of alignment, you can wear a belt rather quickly.

I couldn't pinpoint where the leak was ,but I guess when the belt broke it did more than lilely take somelines with it....Those 22's are a real treat to turn with no power steering:argh: had to wait like 2 hrs for a tow...bad luck ..

The belt was shredded and wrapped behind the pulley so I couldn't spin it but everything else looked ok???other than the fluid leaking

It still could be your crank pully, as it works it's self loose it starts to wooble
and could easily throw the belt, causing all kinds of problems including breakind pws lines. Also that leak you found could be from the damper, it might have come out past the front seal and let oil get past..
not trying to scare you but my damper came loose and I lost all accesories
driven by the belt.
If the dealership did just change the belt you might have some recourse by having them take the blame by not properly diagnosing the problem and simply "changing " the belt....

I think it should be covered under the 3/36 dodge factory warranty anyway no matter what the problem , right??

Check with the stealership, my 3 years was up 1 month befor my tranny problem. Mileage is great but that ( which ever comes first) will get ya. Just gotta see when the truck was pulled off the lot and the year counter started.

My truck developed a squeek recently, im almost postive its the belt/pulley.. it quits when it gets warm. crank pulley does have a slight wobble. guess i better check the bolts..

Dude, check into it asap cause the main bolt holding the pulley on my truck somehow worked itself loose and caused one hell of a mess under the hood....The belt got shredded and on top of that bent 2 of the other pully's...Im still under warranty luckily...I hope me posting keeps you from the same headache..

the dealer (or you) need to make sure there was no damage to the end of the crankshaft.

So this is the final determination on what happened??

From what I was told, a bolt holding the pully on that is suppose to have 80lb of torque on it somehow worked itself extremely loose , causing the pully to wobble and throw the belt off, and then bend 2 other pully's in the process.. They told me that the power steering fluid was caused by pressure in the pump when the belt off causing it to blow out of the main reservoir:dontknow: 2 days for the parts...that sux but as long as it gets fixed right, I'll be satisfied..
