My car club challenged me with a GTO, a G8 and a Lightning. All three were 2 out of 3 and i won all three challenges, but by the hair of my ass. Best time so far is 8.01 and i pulled two 8.6's early in the night. 1.84 and a 2.02 60 ft. I had 8 passes .08 reaction or quicker and one .02 and .03 red lights.

Ive been nursing this T-56 along, with it popping out of reverse and a quick grind going into second and third at high rpm. This sunday at the track it was the worse ever. 3-4 passes i crossed the line coasting 70 from second or third not being there.

Im through racing for a LONG time. Im going to fix this clutch/slave issue and be talking to one of our vendors to see about getting this trans rebuilt/new. 82,000 miles and i have trashed this trans, and this shifter is garbage. X-metal or B&M is coming. 4.88's or 5.13's are on the table too. I want to do all of this at the same time and fix all the problems once and for all.

For the first time ever i drove home disappointed in my truck, and was pretty damn frustrated. Guess its my fault.

any time you beat on em they will break sooner or later. build it back better

That truck has had a lot of hard runs...fix the tranny, get the rear end you want...and life will be good!

I know i was an ass to you in the past Prof. Looking back at my thread, I dont have a clue what frame of mind i was in. Please forgive me. Im thankful you let it go, It's good to see you post on my thread. I do respect your opinions.

Me and my wife went through all my White Slips last night. 68. 8 more are the yellow ones. And 5 of them came from the VTCOA Southeast GTG. so 76 races. and only 3 are losses im ashamed of.

My bests ever .01 reaction, 1.79 60ft, 8.01 ET 92.2 mph on the Pirelli's. When i get back on the track later this year with more mods im shooting for 7.3

I frequently need to be put in my place.

We are family here, and disputes are very short lived.

If you jumped on me for no good reason...there were plenty of other situations in which I should have had my ass kicked...so you were just doing other peoples work!

All is good.

I had many problems with my stock tranny and me racing it every weekend, the dealer rebuilt it five times and replaced it once. I finally had the tranny built by t56rebuilds.com(amber and joe), she told me what it needed, and after two days and two thousand dollars I had a tranny with a warranty that covers going to the track. I have well over 500 passes(36,000miles) on it now, still the stock shifter, and it feels as smooth as the day I got it.

Btw there huge on all the Ls1 boards...

Try a B&M Shifter, New clutch and Viper hydralics first. You may not need the tranny work after you replace the weak links.

When i shift reverse i feel it go solidly into gear, as deep as all the others. When i start letting out on the clutch it immediatly pops out even when i hold the shifter. The shifter doesnt move. I have to go to neutral and when i push back into reverse it stops just shy of going into gear, and i have to slowly let out on the clutch for the shifter to click into gear. Rinse repeat. It cant take the torque of idle rpm feathered clutch release.

When i drive it hard i hear about 3-5 clicks of the teeth on the gear grinding before it goes in 2nd and 3rd. Just above 5200, it locks me out all together and i have to let it idle down to catch my gear. Its done it enough im worried about the teeth on the gear beaten to hell.

You have damaged syncronizers, mine did that exact thing execpt mine would get stuck in 5th gear... You hear the teeth because there is not enough of the syncro left to make the gears match speed before they try to mesh, those "clicks" are the gears hitting each other and slowinh down. Chances are you will have to replace the gears too because of that. You probley have a broke key or scyro stuck on the reverse slider that is keeping you from shifting in smoothly

Would flushing and some synthetic bring some life back to the synchros? Maybe hold me over a few months till I get a new?
The thicker fluid dodge put in there serves no purpose other than quieting down the rattles of the gears, some Mobil 1 atf will make it shift a little easier, but its not magic. Just don’t grind gears and your will be fine, real manual trannys don't have scyros you just have to know how to shift... I tried to explain this before but was never able to convey what I was saying, but I'll try again.

I need to make a video of this, but you can shift our trucks without the clutch easily, every speed your going has a corresponding rpm to which each gear will "fall" right into place... Meaning if I am coasting at 10mph and I rev the engine up, as the rpms fall you can slide the shifter into first(or what every gear) at XXXXrpm, this works with any gear at any speed as long as you know what rpm to make the engine so that it meshes perfectly.

...scyronizers are like pads the gears slip on so that by the time the touch they are going the same speed, with damaged scyros you need to help the tranny shift by matching the rpms of the motor to the gear and speed, all while still using the clutch, done right they will be no additional damage to you tranny, but every time you hear it grind know your hurting more and more parts, the pieces of the gears that break off cause even more damage...

...just remember that grinding is the difference between a 1,200 rebuild and a 5,000 overhaul...

Lol, evidently I knew what you were going to post before it happen.....

As usual..... I find that these rigs can be fragile if they are run hard.....

Sorry, bro..

I know what your talking about and have no trouble doing it. Normal shifting is effortless in the stop and go city life and i can drive it hard and shift at 5500 with no problems. Its when i shift is fast and hard that i feel the clicks or get locked out.

how well did the G8 do??? i drove one before i bought the truck and i may go back and pick up one later to mod out alil... family ride withh alittle wow

It was awsome. Not quite as powerful as the GTO but a better family car. It ran an 8.8 i think
